Lebron James Wins 3rd MVP
Lebron James is once again the MVP of the NBA. The Miami Heat forward joins an exclusive club of elite players as he is only the 8th player to win the award three times. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Moses Malone are the only other players to have been awarded the MVP trophy at least three times.
The NBA hasn’t made the official announcement yet but an inside source says that the NBA will make it official later today. James will receive the trophy on Sunday afternoon before the Miami Heat take on the Indiana Pacers during the first game of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
This is James ninth season in the NBA and he still hasn’t been able to win an NBA championship. The star forward said that he was happy with another MVP award but his goal this year is to get a ring. James said:
“What I’m all about is team and ever since I was a kid, I was always taught it’s team first… My first time playing basketball, we went undefeated and won a championship and Frank Walker Sr. gave everyone on the team a MVP trophy. Right then and there, I knew that this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to see my teammates reap the benefits as well.”
It’s hard to argue that James didn’t deserve the MVP this year. James averaged 27.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.9 steals, and had 53% shooting. The only other player to have a better statistical year was Michael Jordan in his 1988-89 season where he averaged 32.5 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 2.9 steals and had 54% shooting.
Do you think Lebron James deserved the MVP? Do you think he’ll win his first championship this year?
