Man Accidentally Shoots Himself While Guarding ‘Muslim-Free’ Store In Oklahoma
An Oklahoma man accidentally shot himself while standing guard outside of a gun range that made headlines for declaring itself a “Muslim-free” zone. The Save Yourself Survival and Tactical Gear store owners say they received death threats from around the globe after the store made headlines for refusing to serve Muslims. Therefore, friends and volunteers in the community began standing guard outside of the store with weapons in tow. However, one of the men at the store accidentally dropped his weapon and was shot in the arm.
News 9 reports that an armed man at the Save Yourself Survival and Tactical Gear store was accidentally shot in the arm after a weapon discharged from being dropped on the floor. The Oktaha, Oklahoma gun store received backlash after owners posted a note on the door declaring the business a “Muslim-free” establishment.
The Inquisitr previously reported on the sign, noting that the store owners felt that the move was necessary for “customer safety.” They also noted that they would not support terrorism or arming of terrorists. According to WFAA, the owners said that by making the store “Muslim-free” they were protecting local soldiers.
“I didn’t want any terrorists, or Muslims, cult, whatever you want to call them, training on my gun range. There is a military recruiting station in the mall in Muskogee, and I thought this was one thing I could do to help protect our local soldiers.”
However, it seems the plan to create a safe environment backfired when one of the men standing guard outside of the gun range with a weapon accidentally shot himself. Sheriff Charles Pearson said the man dropped his gun and a bullet hit him in the arm. The sheriff did not identify the man or offer any other details about what happened. However, the Muslim-free gun range owners took to Facebook to explain the incident and stated that the man was not a guard, but a friend at the establishment trying to help fix a broken door.
“I would like to address the sad news of today’s unfortunate accident. First I would like to state the true FACTS of the story. The gentleman was a close and personal friend of ours, not a guard nor a customer. He is a very sweet and dear friend who we consider to be like family. He came over today to help fix a door in my office and as he bent over his weapon fell from a malfunctioning chest holster and went off when it hit the floor. I myself performed emergency first aide until the ambulance could arrive. We then went to the hospital to be with the family which is why we closed for the day. He is going to be ok and we will keep you updated on his progress. We strive for safety on our range and in our store and encourage everyone to maintain safety checks on their equipment to ensure they are properly functioning. Thank you and please keep this family in your prayers! Love Niki”
