Amy Winehouse’s Father Says Singer Believed She Was Pregnant Before She Died
Singer Amy Winehouse believed she was pregnant with fiance Reg Traviss’ baby before she died, her father has recently claimed. The “Back to Black” singer died at the age of 27 from alcohol poisoning in 2011 at her home in London. Amy was engaged to British film director Reg Traviss at the time of her death. Winehouse and Reg were together for two years before Amy died.
Amy’s father, Mitch Winehouse, isn’t happy, to say the least, with the way Asif Kapadia’s documentary portrays his late daughter’s life. During Winehouse’s Sunday appearance on Australia’s Channel Seven Weekend Sunrise show, Mitch explained why he doesn’t approve of the documentary and revealed that Winehouse thought she was pregnant before she died (via the Independent).
“Everything. We do not want this film, and Amy’s fans do not want this film, to represent Amy. She was with Reg, they were going to get married. I shouldn’t tell you this but she thought she was pregnant at some stage.”
Mitch Winehouse added, “You know, Amy was surrounded by people, surrounded by her friends, and her family all of her life and to give the impression that she was on her own is frankly criminal.”
The blame for Amy Winehouse’s death has been placed on Amy’s father as well as her ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil. It’s been suggested that her father’s divorce from her mother was traumatic for the singer, but Amy’s father blames Fielder-Civil.
Concerning his divorce, Mitch Winehouse said, “I don’t think it was this traumatic, incredible effect that everyone is thinking that it is.”
Earlier this year, the Times Magazine reported Amy’s ex-husband, Fielder-Civil, says he isn’t responsible for Amy Winehouse’s death though he was the one who introduced her to drugs. He does say, however, that he believes the film on Winehouse’s life is fair.
“I don’t think I ruined her, no. I think we found each other and certain people need to realise that she did have other addictions before she met me. She wasn’t a happy, well adjusted young woman, you know, and I find it disrespectful to imply I was some Machiavellian puppet master.”
James Gay-Rees, the director of the Amy Winehouse documentary, told the Times Magazine, “He was no angel but she was no angel. I don’t buy into this idea that he ruined her. Personally, I think she wanted someone like that.”
Knowing that she struggled with addiction long before her death, what do you think about the revelation that Amy Winehouse thought she was pregnant before she died?
