Melissa Joan Hart Talks New Children’s Clothing Line And Being A Multi-Tasking Mom [Interview]
Melissa Joan Hart made her mark in the television realm when she was the star of Clarissa Explains It All, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Melissa and Joey. Now, after undergoing a successful 40-pound weight loss, Hart is now going into the entrepreneurial sector. Melissa Joan Hart is a full-time mother and the head of a new clothing line.
Hart launched a new line of clothing for boys called, “King Harts.” On top of that, she’s able to take care of her three boys after a lucrative TV career. Melissa Joan Hart stopped by to talk with the Inquisitr about her latest endeavors in the business world, while finding time to keep her kids healthy.
Inquisitr: I have a quote right here and it says, “Mastering the Art of the Multi-Tasking Mom As Kids Go Back to School.” Have you mastered that yet?
Melissa Joan Hart: I think that’s always the struggle. It is tricky, when kids go back to school, it’s bittersweet. You’re excited because you finally get your days free, but you miss them too. You miss the kids when they’re gone and they’re another year older. It’s so hectic, the mornings and trying to get them fed, dressed, their teeth brushed and out the door.
Then, they come home and it’s homework time. Then it’s sports, dinner time and then before you know it, it’s bedtime. It is tricky, but I found that with Old El Paso’s new, mini-taco boats, you can make dinner time a really fun time for your family to reconnect and slow down the day.
When all the sports and homework are done, you can reconnect over these fun meals where you can put out all these healthy options and let your kids feel that they are in control of dinner when you have picky eaters like mine.
Inquisitr: When I was in high school, even back into elementary school, the food wasn’t good for you. Actually, it was terrible for you. It’s changing now with a lot of initiatives coming into place. Parents can’t see their kids at school eating, if they are choosing those healthy options.
Melissa Joan Hart: I think they always have a backup option too, to which I found out my kids are choosing the backup option, which wasn’t always the healthiest choice. I have really picky eaters, so it can be a struggle. Meal time is always a struggle in our house to try and get them to eat something good.
These tacos are the only thing that my family can agree on, because I can something healthy like chicken, peppers, onions, and avocado on mine. My husband can have his and my boys like the ground beef.
Inquisitr: Do you agree with the theory that starting kids out eating young when they’re healthy helps them in the future when they make eating choices?
Melissa Joan Hart: I think the trick is letting them feel like they are in control. Whether it’s with clothes or food, you give them three choices, but they are three good choices that you approve of. Then, they can’t fail, but they feel like they are in control. I think that really helps. It does start at home, absolutely.
It can be really difficult, like when options seem to be chicken nuggets, then it tends to derail. My sister was brilliant. She was able to convince her kids that frozen peas were dessert. So, they’d always ask for frozen peas. She gave it to them young and they thought it was a treat. I think the more you introduce it to them, the more they’ll like.
Inquisitr: Not only are you a mother and an actress, but you started your own clothing line. Tell me a little about that.
Melissa Joan Hart: I’ve always been fascinated with the business world and my parents were entrepreneurs. I just love the idea of having a job that you go to everyday. With acting, you have these stretches where you work crazy hours, and then you have times where it is totally dry. I was trying to find something that I could do with my husband, when the kids are in school, during normal business hours and being able to work from home.
This clothing line came up and I was so excited about it. Ever since I had my first son, I’ve wanted to start my own kids clothing line. That’s when I realized that boys don’t have that many options that don’t have licensed characters on them. So, I wanted to do a graphic t-shirt line, and then I should add some denim to that.
For our new back-to-school line, we have great plaid button-down shirts, a denim jacket and a big, sherpa-lined parka. It’s just really fun to see these designs come to life. I hired a bunch of great people who know what they’re doing and we’re making some great products. You can go to ‘King of Harts Kids’ on social media and kingofharts.com.
