Margaret Cho Divorcing: Comedian And Husband Al Ridenour End 11-Year Marriage [Video]
Margaret Cho is divorcing her artist husband, Al Ridenour, following an 11-year marriage and a long separation. Cho and her soon-to-be ex separated last September, according to People, and announced it was official in December, 2014. Margaret Cho and Al had an open relationship, and Margaret is an open bisexual.
After the lengthy separation, Margaret decided divorcing was the next step and filed on August 12 in Los Angeles, California. The couple cited “irreconcilable differences” as their “legal grounds for separation,” reports People.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, a spokesperson for Cho would not release an official statement about why Margaret is divorcing her husband. However, fans believe signs are pointing to a recent miscarriage Cho suffered. Although Margaret makes light of the tragic event, it’s clear it’s also a painful subject for her. In an interview with the New York Times, Margaret said, “[W]hen I got pregnant, it was such a triumph. I enjoyed being superior to everyone else.” Sadly, Margaret lost the child, and then “I was even more superior. I was tragic.”

According to Us Weekly, after her separation and deciding divorcing Al is her only option, Margaret was crushed. A source close to Cho revealed, “It’s been really, really hard for her. She’s going through a really rough time and she’s really sad about it,” the insider explained.
It’s possible the open relationship might be a reason Cho is divorcing her spouse. In an interview with Queerty.com, Margaret Cho explained the reasoning behind her unconventional marriage. “It’s about creating family. It’s about creating the relationship that you’re meant to create.” Margaret said. “I’m all about commitment. And I’m all about marriage. And I’m all about family. And I’m queer also.”
Cho went on to explain in that interview that even though she and her husband see other people, their relationship was strong, reports the New York Daily News. “A lot of people have questioned my marriage and questioned the validity of my marriage, but I’ve been married 51 times longer than Kim Kardashian and that guy she was with. 51 times longer. 51 times! I mean that’s, like, significant,” Margaret Cho explained.
Although it’s not clear why she is divorcing her husband, in a 2013 interview with the Real, Margaret Cho revealed doesn’t want to be with one person. “I’m married to a man but I’m bisexual so I like both. We got together because … we both have this [idea], ‘I just don’t want to have sex with the same person my whole life. That’s just gross,'” Cho said.
