Donald Trump Wooed ‘Ultimate Trophy Wife’ Princess Diana, Failed Miserably
If Donald Trump had managed to sweep Princess Diana off her feet years ago, perhaps the beloved royal would still be alive and doing her part to convince Americans that the real estate mogul would make a great president. Unfortunately for love-stricken Donald, he allegedly gave Diana “the creeps.”
According to USA Today, a journalist has claimed that Donald Trump relentlessly pursued Princess Diana after her divorce from Prince Charles in 1996. In a Sunday Times column, journalist Selina Scott writes that Diana confided in her about the unwanted attention Trump once lavished her with. The royal was desperately trying to figure out what she could do to get billionaire businessman to leave her alone.
“‘What am I going to do? He gives me the creeps,” Diana allegedly asked Selina Scott. The journalist claims that the only advice she gave Diana was to trash the massive bouquets of flowers that Donald Trump pet sending to Kensington Palace. She says that “Diana laughed” at this suggestion.
“Trump clearly saw Diana as the ultimate trophy wife.”
USA Today points out that Selina Scott and Donald Trump have been engaged in a long-standing feud, and Scott knows how Megyn Kelly feels — she’s another TV personality who has been trashed by Trump’s loose tongue. After Scott dared to question Trump about his business dealings, he called her “insecure” and “obnoxious.”
While Scott certainly has an incentive to fabricate stories that make the Republican presidential hopeful look like a cad, there’s at least a hint of truth to her report. According to the New York Daily News, Trump actually admitted to having feelings for Lady Di in his book, Trump: The Art of the Comeback. He didn’t mention bombarding the object of his affection with pricey bouquets of flowers, but he did express his dismay that he never got the chance to properly “court” the princess.
“I met her on a number of occasions. I couldn’t help but notice how she moved people,” Trump wrote. “She was a genuine princess, a dream lady.”
If Princess Diana was on Donald Trump’s arm today, Americans’ admiration for her would probably help the GOP frontrunner surge even further ahead in the polls, and he’d possibly secure the presidency. Then, the Donald would be forced to pretend that all the votes were just for him, not for Diana as First Lady.
Unfortunately for Republicans, we’re not living in this twisted alternate universe, but the New York Post thinks that the woman Trump is married to now would also make a “First Lady for the ages.” Writer Marissa Charles points out that Melania Trump would be the only First Lady who has posed nude. Melania’s other attributes include her ability to speak four foreign languages, her good looks (she’s a former model), her European roots, and her “quiet, gracious manner.”
In other words, Melania might not be royal, but she could probably pass for being a princess (minus the nude photo thing). However, she’s not the “ultimate trophy wife” that Donald Trump so desperately desired.
