WNBA Star Brittney Griner Requests Judge Annul Her Marriage, Wife Pregnant With Twins [Video]
Brittney Griner, who plays center for WNBA team Phoenix Mercury, requested an Arizona judge annul her marriage to Glory Johnson this month. The judge denied the annul request, reports TMZ.
Brittney Griner, who has had a tempestuous relationship with her wife, requested the judge annul the union after finding out Glory was still in contact with her ex. The news that Brittney made the request to annul her marriage hit Johnson hard – especially since the previous day, she announced the couple was pregnant with twins. Brittney Griner is still legally bound to her pregnant wife, however, who is rejoicing that the decisions the couple made together will be upheld.

“I am thankful the annulment was rejected because an act of marriage did occur,” Glory confessed to TMZ. “Together we made life-changing decisions which impacted our lives collectively, and we both should be held responsible for those decisions.” TMZ took the quote to mean, “translation: I’m having twins, we’re still married, and YOU are the breadwinner for this family.”
According to Us Weekly, Brittney Griner filed to end her marriage in an Arizona court back in June, only 28 days after marrying Glory. In that document, Griner complains that Johnson was still talking to her ex-boyfriend. Brittney claims she wouldn’t have gotten married if she knew about it and asked the judge to annul her marriage.
In June, Brittney Griner also told ESPN the relationship was on rocky ground even before the couple walked down the aisle, “but sometimes you feel pressured into things.” Brittney told ESPN that she “went along with it,” confessing, “I knew I shouldn’t have and it was a huge mistake.” In April, both Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson were arrested for assaulting each other. “I understand what I did was wrong,” Griner said told ESPN in their 2015 Body Issue. “[It] was mutual; they call it ‘mutual combat.’ And that’s what it was. But I wish I had walked away…That was my worst decision; I should’ve left. Because it never ends good.”
Brittney also revealed that she sought counseling after her arrest, telling ESPN, “Domestic violence is never OK, no matter what the situation.” It seems Britney Griner wanted the judge to annul her union because the chemistry between her and Glory just isn’t working. Johnson, although glorious that the judge refused to annul the marriage, is “truly really saddened” that it’s over, and told Us Weekly that she “was not expecting to have [it] end so abruptly.”
