‘Batman V Superman’ Star Ben Affleck’s Next Two Films Pushed Back, Making Room For More Batman?
It is now apparent that Ben Affleck’s run as Batman will not end with his upcoming film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In fact, according to Den of Geek, Affleck will be starring in three additional movies as Batman in the DC Entertainment Universe.
The decision for Affleck to star in three solo movies as Batman came after executives at Warner Bros. recently sat down for a private screening of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Sources close to the Warner Bros. executives stated that they were thoroughly satisfied with how Affleck portrayed the caped crusader, and they promptly approved to have Affleck stay in the role for future films.
In light of this news, Deadline recently revealed that Warner Bros. has also postponed two of Affleck’s movies with the studio. The Accountant, which originally had a release date of January 29, 2016 has been bumped up to October 7, 2016. At the same time, Live By Night, has been moved from an October 7, 2016 premiere to an unspecific date in 2017.
The moving of the film’s premiere dates, both of which have Affleck as the lead role, seem to indicate that Warner Bros. is trying to clear up Affleck’s schedule for his expanded role as Batman. If this is the case, then fans should expect a few more Batman solo movies to be released a little sooner than expected.
Meanwhile, two trailers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have been released, and they both offer a glimpse at what fans can expect to go down in the coming film.
Based on what can be gleaned from the videos, it is apparent that the new film will be directly related to the events at the end of Man of Steel, which featured an epic battle between Superman and General Zod.
That battle scene in Man of Steel led to the destruction of many buildings in Metropolis, including one owned by Bruce Wayne. In fact, the trailer addressed this issue and seems to indicate that the death of some of his employees is one reason why Batman goes after Superman.
To add to this idea, director Zack Snyder has described Metropolis as being a kind of sister city to Gotham, with both being in close proximity to each other.
While fans wait for more news about Ben Affleck’s next Batman movies, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to hit theaters on March 16, 2016. You can also catch Affleck making a cameo as Batman in Suicide Squad which opens on August 5, 2016.
