‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Prequel ‘The First 9’ Could Still Happen, Kurt Sutter Teases — Will Charlie Hunnam Reprise His Role?
Fans will be excited to know that a prequel for FX’s hit biker drama Sons of Anarchy is still in the works. Although Kurt Sutter is currently busy with the production and release of his newest series, The Bastard Executioner, he recently stated that a Sons of Anarchy prequel, concerning the First 9, is still very much on his mind.
“It’s something that we have talked about. It’s something that we have interest in. We are interested,” Sutter stated during an interview with E! News. “I think the timing of it really depends on what unfolds. I think for me, and the network, it’s taking the next obvious and right choice and [The Bastard Executioner] is the energy we’re moving in now.”
Sutter continued to say that he wanted a little bit of breathing room following the end of Sons of Anarchy, which wrapped up its final season in December.
“I didn’t want to come right off of that and do a prequel or anything like that. I wanted to give it a couple years to breathe before we came back to do it,” he explained. “So none of that has gone away. We’ll see how the next couple years or at least the next year with [The Bastard Executioner] unfolds and then we’ll have to see.”
With a prequel series likely on the way, what can fans expect to be the main storyline?
“It’s always about character and relationship. As it was with Sons,” Sutter revealed. “The outlaw motorcycle club became the backdrop to a very conflicted hero. That is what will happen here.”
Although the new series is expected to focus on some of the original members of the biker gang, it isn’t known which characters from Sons of Anarchy will be included in the story. That being said, one of the biggest questions surrounding the prequel will be whether or not Charlie Hunnam will reprise his role as Jax Teller.
Meanwhile, Sutter has been in the midst of production for his newest series, The Bastard Executioner. The success of the medieval drama will directly influence when Sutter decides to move forward with the prequel to Sons of Anarchy. Either way, although everyone wishes Sutter success in his newest series, hopefully he will find time to produce the prequel sooner rather than later.
The first season of The Bastard Executioner is set to premiere on September 9 on FX.
