Russell Williams: ‘Dateline’ NBC Features Colonel Russell Williams Panty Fetish Case Tonight
Russell Williams, a once decorated Canadian military colonel turned killer, will be profiled on Dateline NBC Thursday. Thursday night’s episode entitled Conduct Unbecoming is a repeat episode. Colonel Russell Williams was convicted for the 2009, 2010 murders of Cpl. Marie-France Comeau and Jessica Lloyd. For those murders, he was sentenced to two life sentences to be served consecutively.
Base commander Russell Williams became a nationwide sensation in 2010, after it was brought to light that the 20-year, respected officer had broken into the homes of several women. During his break ins, he would sniff and steal the panties from the women’s drawers. Police records show that Williams robbed and raped women for years to satisfy a fetish for women’s underwear. His crimes were revealed after a missing Canadian woman was found dead. The tire tracks leading from the woman’s home matched the tires on Williams vehicle.
Air Force Col. Russell Williams had such a good reputation that no one who had worked with him or under him could believe the allegations. One man is said to have cried when he heard about the accusations against Russel Williams. Since his arrest and conviction, at least one victim has stated that she believed that his wife, Mary Elizabeth Harriman, knew about his double life and his obsession with women’s clothing. Harriman’s attorneys have denied that she knew anything about Russell Williams’ sex-driven crimes, according to Macleans.
The Movies Based On True Stories Archives reported that a movie was made about the case in 2012 entitled An Officer and a Murderer. The true-story movie aired on the Lifetime channel with Gary Cole brilliantly playing the part of Col. Russell Williams. The disgraced officer eventually made a full murder confession, which can be found on YouTube.
“I have committed despicable crimes… betraying my family, my friends and colleagues and the Canadian Forces. I shall spend the rest of my life regretting that I have ended two vibrant, innocent and cherished lives.”
Dateline NBC will tell Russell Williams’ story through interviews with law enforcement officials and experts close to the case, who say that Williams’ fantasies escalated to murder when his urges became stronger. Years later, the bizarre panty fetish case continues to intrigue the public. Numerous crime documentaries and news programs have profiled the case, including CBS 48 Hours. Last week, Inquisitr reported on the tragic case of Lynn and Fred Schockner.
