‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Spoilers: How Damon’s Coping And A Big Surprise Involving Stefan And Caroline
How does a vampire cope with knowing that the woman he loves is going to be sleeping for the next 60 or so years, depending on how long Bonnie lives? That’s the question when it comes to Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries Season 7, and fortunately – or rather, probably, unfortunately, at least for the other person – he has someone else grieving a major loss, as well.
As Season 6 ended, Kai’s last act before Damon finally beheaded him was to link Bonnie and Elena’s lives so that while Bonnie lives, Elena sleeps, and so Elena’s tucked away safely for the time being. However, the final scene showed a very different Mystic Falls, one at some point in the future where the town has gone to hell. Matt’s now an officer of the law, Damon stands on the clock tower looking out over what has become of the town, and something has obviously gone very, very wrong. Plus, Lily reunited with her “family” of heretics, which means bad news for everyone.
As the Inquisitr previously reported, the Vampire Diaries Season 7 premiere title has (sort of) leaked – “22,190 Days” – and fans are speculating that the number stands for the number of days until Elena wakes up and Bonnie dies. However, that episode title is not completely correct, according to an interview executive producer Julie Plec did with TVLine. Instead, the title is closer to something along the lines of, “Day 20 of 22,190, Give or Take.”
“It’s counting down to the beautiful inevitability of his reunion with his one true love,” Plec confirmed, adding that “he tacks on an extra decade” for Bonnie every once in a while. “It’s the waiting game. That’s not what’s hard for him; it’s what to do with himself and how to behave as a man and a vampire in the interim.”
As for how Damon will be coping without Elena, the executive producer said that he will be drinking, and he will have Alaric as his drinking buddy once again, considering Alaric didn’t have it easy at the end of the sixth season of The Vampire Diaries either. Kai interrupted his and Jo’s wedding and killed her (and their unborn children – twins, of course). Alaric even turned a gun on himself at one point in the finale. (The poor guy just can’t catch a break when it comes to his love life). Bonnie will be their chaperone.
In somewhat happier news, Stefan and Caroline are going to be “part of one of the bigger surprises of the season,” coming up around the sixth or seventh episode, according to Plec, and she called it “a fun curveball to throw their way.”
Though the two hooked up while their humanity switches were flipped to off, the rest of the sixth season wasn’t an easy one for Stefan and Caroline. Then, in the finale, he told her he would wait for her, and she’s going to be trying to get things together following her mother’s death and her subsequent reaction of turning off her humanity.
Finally, People has reported that CW president Mike Pedowitz said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that Nina Dobrev “is welcome back any time she wants to come back.”
The Vampire Diaries Season 7 premieres Thursday, October 8, at 8 p.m. on the CW.
