Kim Richards Released From Hospital After Brief Stay Following Shoplifting Arrest
Kim Richards has been released from the hospital after a brief stay following her shoplifting arrest. Concerned family members reportedly had the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star hospitalized late last week.
According to E! News, sources confirm Kim Richards has been released from the hospital for the time being, but insiders are staying mum as to the exact reason why family members had the reality star hospitalized after her latest arrest.
As Us Weekly reports, the reality star was arrested on Sunday, August 2, for allegedly stealing over 100 items from a Target in San Fernando Valley. According to the Los Angeles City Attorney, the merchandise Kim is accused of stealing totaled $612. Richards spent Sunday night in jail and was released the next day on $5,000 bond.
Kim Richards’ shoplifting arrest comes just months after the former child actress was arrested for public intoxication, resisting arrest, and battery. Immediately following her April arrest, Richards entered rehab, but continued to struggle with her sobriety. Kim recently admitted in a July 22 interview with Entertainment Tonight that relapsing was very hard on her, but the former RHOBH star thought her recent rehab stint was exactly what she needed because of all the stress she was under at the time of her April 16 arrest.
“I love sobriety. I’ve always loved sobriety, and relapsing was very hard for me. It was not easy. I have to say, don’t take this wrong, but I really wanted to go to treatment because I needed a break from what I was going through at home. Monty, my ex-husband, is very sick and my son wasn’t well. And I had to give away my dog, and I wasn’t talking to my sister [Kyle Richards].”
Although the reality star said her rehab stay was helpful, some of Kim’s friends and family worry the troubled reality star may have fallen back into old habits after leaving rehab, as evidenced by her recent shoplifting arrest, a source tells Us Weekly, and as the Inquisitr previously reported, witnesses reported Richards smelling of alcohol during the incident.
Kim Richards, nor sisters Kyle Richards and Kathy Hilton, have spoken publicly about the reality star’s latest arrest. However, her ex-husband, Monty Brinson, spoke out shortly after the arrest to defend his ex-wife.
“I couldn’t imagine Kim stealing or shoplifting anything. She is a giver. I am in complete shock. Guaranteed this must be some kind of mistake, and the facts will come out soon. She was arrested for shoplifting toys in a cart, but this was a clear misunderstanding. This was not alcohol or drug related.”
As to Kim Richards’ August 2 arrest, the former RHOBH star pleaded not guilty and is due to appear in court on August 20.
