Zayn Malik might do well to consult Shakespeare on matters of the heart. Penning an epic farewell in Sonnet #87 , the Bard set a high standard for those who wish to break free of a troubled romance with the words,”Farewell! thou art too dear for my possessing.” But if reports regarding Zayn Malik’s break up with fiancée Perrie Edwards are true, the former One Direction singer doesn’t even measure up to the promises in his 21st century, auto tuned pop anthems. Hard cheese, Zayn fans.
Drawing a comparison to Russell Brand’s 2011 breakup with Katy Perry , Hollywood Life reports that Zayn Malik recently called off his engagement to Perrie Edwards with a single text message two weeks ago. The celebrity news site asserts that Edwards was completely caught by surprise when Malik lowered the boom.
U.K.-based paper The Sun notes that Malik has severed all ties with his ex, leaving his fiancée “completely devastated.”
“Perrie is one of the sweetest girls in the world and she’s stood by him through thick and thin,” a source told Dan Wootton of The Sun . “But he ended their engagement with one text message and in the two weeks since there’s been complete radio silence between them … Who does that? She’s devastated, which everyone understands, but is doing her best to focus on work and to put on a brave face in public.”
As previously reported by Inquisitr , Zayn Malik reappeared on social media earlier this week after a brief absence in the midst of the media flap over his personal life. In a tweet described by some as “cryptic,” the singer appeared to take a swipe at his detractors, up to and including Ms. Edwards.
You just can’t do enough for some people, I guess

Some of Malik’s 15 million followers took issue with Malik, feeling that he’s made a veiled reference to Perrie Edwards with the comment. For his part, he declined to make any statements to clear up the matter, returning to more innocuous fare, including selfies and his travel itinerary.

Although heartbroken, life seems to be getting back to normal for Perrie Edwards, too. In fact, she recently told Radio Disney that she has a new favorite song, “Drag Me Down” by One Direction. For those who like to keep score, that’s the boy band’s first big single without Zayn Malik.
