Chaka Khan probably isn’t the first name you’d think of when it comes to future X-Factor judges, but could the Queen of Funk be a dark horse contender?
Well, okay, it seems unlikely. Current rumors suggest the team behind the show is more focused on securing younger performers such as Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, or Miley Cyrus. Yet according to TMZ and ‘sources’ close to the legendary performer, Khan feels her forty years in the business could secure her a spot on the reality show’s four-judge panel.
With two spots on the 2012 season already taken by Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid, the show is seeking two female judges to replace the departed Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.
Khan, the proud winner of 10 Grammy Awards, has reportedly told her team to reach out to show producers. She certainly beats the likes of Spears, Cyrus and Lovato for industry experience, but is that actually what counts on such a show? (That’s a rhetorical question: OF COURSE IT ISN’T .)
Anyway, with Britney said to be closest to signing a $15 million deal, there could soon be only one spot left. Perhaps the inherent ageism of these shows will be overcome and the funk legend will be taken on (after all, the outgoing Abdul is 49, only ten years younger than Khan)? She’d certainly make more interesting viewing than a giggling toerag like Cyrus.
