Warren Buffett Thinks Women Should Be Allowed To Join Augusta National Golf Club

If Billionaire entrepreneur Warren Buffett had his way women would be able to join Augusta National Golf Club, rather than simply playing the course as a female guest.

The all-men club is the home of the PGA Masters, one of the most storied tournaments in the leagues history and in recent years the club has received plenty of pressure to allow women into its ranks. Speaking with Bloomberg Television Mr. Buffett says of the clubs policy:

“I’m not telling the group at Augusta what to do, but if I were running the club I’d have plenty of women.”

August specifically came under pressure in March after IBM hired Virginia Rometty as the company’s new CEO, in the past all IBM CEOs have been invited to join Augusta. When asked about Rometty being offered an invitation to the club August national chairman Billy Payne recently said:

“We don’t talk about our private deliberations. We especially don’t talk about it when a named candidate is a part of the question.”

Adding to the tension is the fact that IBM is one of the Masters’ biggest sponsors.

Buffett of course has a bit of interest in IBM as Berkshire Hathaway owns a 5.5 percent stake in the tech giant.

Warren Buffett did admit he knew of Augusta’s exclusionary policy when he joined the club, adding that he had no plans to give up his membership.

In the meantime as a private club Augusta National is allowed to accept or deny anyone who seeks membership based on sex, race or any other mitigating factors regarding its policy.
