Elephant Plays The Harmonica At Washington Zoo [Video]
Shanthi the elephant at the National Zo in Washington could be America’s next big star. Zoo keepers believe that Shanthi is musically inclined. She’s even started playing the harmonica.
Elephant keeper Debbie Flinkman believes that the 36-year-old elephant is musically inclined.
Flinkman says that Shanthi is always beating her trunk against things, flapping her ears in rhythm, and lately, she’s playing the mouth harp.
Flinkman said:
“Shanthi also likes to tap things, flap her ears against objects to make noise and rub her leg up and down shrubs to repeat noises.”
Flinkman says that Shanthi has created a few of her own songs and is a natural born performer.
Flinkman said:
“We put noisemakers all around that the elephants can play with. Shanthi plays the harmonica for her own pleasure and joy. We’re off doing other things when we hear her playing her own songs that she comes up with all by herself.”
Here’s a video of Shanthi the elephant playing the harmonica.
