Max von Sydow Cast In ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 6
Game of Thrones has added veteran actor Max von Sydow to Season 6 of the hit HBO series. The 86-year old Sydow has been tapped to play the role of the Three-Eyed Raven, EW confirms. He is the magical and mysterious character who last appeared in Season 4 in the dreams of Game of Thrones character Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), who asks for the raven to repair his injured legs.
Sydow shared the news of his casting in the Game of Thrones via Twitter.

Sydow will take the reins from British actor Struan Rodger, who previously portrayed the Three-Eyed Raven for a brief scene in the show’s Season 4 finale. The Three-Eyed Raven is slated to make his return in the new season to help reportedly mentor Stark as he hones his magical powers, according to the Wall Street Journal and GOT actor Isaac Hempstead Wright.
“I can’t say a lot but I am back this season, and it’s going to get particularly interesting with Bran,” told the Irish Examiner. “He has some interesting visions,” Wright added.
Sydow joins recently cast actor Ian McShane, who garnered quite a fan following from his Deadwood days. McShane’s role in Game of Thrones is being kept top secret at the moment. The series is currently in production, with Sydow already said to be on set filming his small, but important, role in the drama, adapted from the novels of George R.R. Martin.
Ten all-new episodes of the sixth season is set to bow on HBO sometime next spring. It was recently shared by HBO programming president Michael Lombardo at the Television Critics Association summer press tour late last month that the popular series could run for up to eight seasons on the network.
Max von Sydow’s expansive and impressive acting resume includes roles in The Exorcist, Robin Hood, Shutter Island, and Minority Report. The Swedish born talent has also appeared in the live-action Flash Gordon movie, The Seventh Seal, and has been nominated for two Academy Awards for his work in both Pelle the Conquerorand Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. In May, it was also announced that Sydow would appear in the Star Wars spinoff.
