‘Chicago Med’ Season 1: Everything We Know About The ‘Chicago Fire’ Spinoff

Chicago Fire’s latest spinoff, Chicago Med, does not even premiere until later this fall, but more and more casting news is starting to pour in about the highly-anticipated medical drama from mega-producer Dick Wolff.

Deadline is reporting that Yaya DaCosta will be playing the main character, Maggie Seaver, in the new drama. Seaver is a nurse who has a past, which was detailed on last season of Chicago Fire, with Fire’s Kelly (Taylor Kinney).

DaCosta is known for her portrayal as Whitney Houston in the Lifetime biopic of the pop singer. She has also appeared in Lee Daniel’s The Butler, and is set to play a part in Bolden! and The Nice Guys, both of which are set to come out in 2016.

The new medical drama will center on a team of medical practitioners in Chicago who face a series of challenges in the chaotic environment of the big city. The series will feature a whole new set of cast members, but will also see some crossover from Chicago Fire.

Meanwhile, other cast members of the new series will also include Laurie Holden, S. Epatha Merkerson, Nick Gehlfuss, Colin Donnell, and Oliver Platt. Platt is set to play the head of the psychiatry department, Dr. Daniel Charles.

Chicago Fire served as a platform to introduce the new characters of Chicago Med, with some of the characters of the new series being included in Episode 19 of Chicago Fire’s last season.

Also recently added to the cast is Jurassic World star Brian Tee, who will play a Chicago native who found his calling in the medical field after several tours as an Army medic, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The season premiere will be the first time that Tee and Donnell will appear on Chicago Med. NBC cast both Tee and Donnell after they appeared in the failed pilot Love is a Four Letter Word.

Perhaps the most notable addition to the production team on Dick Wolff’s latest drama, Deadline reports, is former CSI boss Andrew Dettmann joining the show as showrunner and executive producer.

This is the first time that Dettmann will be at the helm of a show all by himself. But, he joins Dick Wolff and Matt Olmstead, Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Arthur Forney, Danielle Gelber, and Peter Jankowski as executive producers.

Chicago Med, which is already getting ready for production of its first season, will premiere on November 10, 2015, at 10/9 p.m. central on NBC.
