‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Releases New Trailer, Spin-Off Will Be ‘Very Different’ From ‘The Walking Dead’ [Watch]

A brand new trailer for AMC’s newest zombie drama, Fear the Walking Dead, has been released online. The trailer, titled Lights Out L.A., (watch it below) features a first look at what will be one of the primary storylines in the season: how the characters will deal with the initial zombie outbreak.

The series, which has already been given the go for two 15-episode seasons, is based in the same world as AMC’s other zombie series, The Walking Dead. Despite this similarity, Fear the Walking Dead centers on a different group of individuals living in Los Angeles who are confronted with the reality of a zombie apocalypse.

Fear the Walking Dead stars Kim Dickens as Madison Clark, a high school guidance counselor, and Cliff Curtis as Travis Manawa, a high school English teacher. Other cast members include Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Ruben Blades, Mercedes Mason, and Lorenzo James Henrie.

The series is produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert, and David Erickson.

Although Fear the Walking Dead lives in the same world as The Walking Dead, Alpert recently explained to the New York Daily News how the new series will be unique in its own way. “We didn’t want to tread on the mother ship,” he stated. “We look at this as a show that’s compelling enough, unique enough to stand on its own.”

One of the main aspects that is different with Fear the Walking is when the timeline for the series begins. The show starts just prior to the zombie outbreak, and will therefore explore how the characters will slowly learn about and deal with the zombie outbreak. This contrasts with The Walking Dead, where the zombie apocalypse has already begun when the first season started.

“It’s by design,” Dave Erickson explained about the time and setting of the new series. “We tried to slow-burn the story, make it as much about the anxiety and tension and paranoia that goes with this outbreak as it is about the actual confrontations with zombies,” he added.

Erickson also revealed that exploring the initial outbreak was one of the main reason why Kirkman wanted to produce the new series. “I think Robert’s goal was to examine elements of the original show and of the comic that he hadn’t had a chance to do before,” he explained.

Fear the Walking Dead is set to premiere on August 23, 2015, on AMC.
