Kelly Osbourne is under fire for some racially insensitive remarks she made on Tuesday, while Kelly and her friends make repeated apologies, and social media continues to call her out, Us Magazine is reporting .
On Tuesday, Osbourne was guest-hosting on The View , when the subject of Donald Trump’s racism came up. Trump, you may recall, has made some inflammatory remarks about Mexican immigrants , saying that they’re “rapists,” “murderers,” and “drug dealers,” and that, as president, his approach to immigration would be to build a giant wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, then send Mexico the bill.
That sentiment didn’t sit well with Kelly Osbourne.
“In what way does he think that people are going to vote for him after he’s just called them rapists and murderers? If you kick every Latino out of this country, then who is going to be cleaning your toilets, Donald Trump?”
The statement drew horrified reactions from her co-hosts, including Rosie Perez.
“Latinos are not only the only people doing that.”
Kelly quickly backtracked , according to ET Online .
“No, I didn’t mean it like that! Come on! I would never mean it like that! I’m not part of this argument.”
What Kelly Osbourne was trying to say — although she chose her words poorly (almost appallingly so) — was that the very people who Trump vilifies are likely people on Trump’s payroll. C0-host Michelle Collins got it.
“I think what you’re saying is that Trump himself probably relies on a lot of these people he’s insulting.”
And Rosie Perez got it, too.
“I want to apologize to this young woman once again for being overly sensitive… Kelly Osbourne is on our side, and I was sensitive. My disdain should only go to Donald Trump, so I’m sorry, darling.”
Despite her co-hosts coming to her defense, Twitter users weren’t as quick to cut Kelly any slack. For a while on Tuesday, Kelly Osbourne was a trending topic on Twitter, and not in a good way.
Kelly Osbourne manages to battle racism, with, well… more racism @KellyOsbourne #donaldtrump

Weird that @KellyOsbourne does not tolerate racism but just made a statement about Latinos being toilet cleaners ??

Kelly Osbourne’s intentions do not matter here. She’s perpetuating a stereotype, & then Rosie Perez is the one put here apologizing.

Do you think Kelly Osbourne’s remarks on Latinos are racist, or did she just choose her words poorly in the heat of the moment?
