Disneyland Buys Land In Anaheim: Rumors Of ‘Star Wars’ Or Marvel Expansions Begin
Rumors of expansions to both Disneyland and Walt Disney World run wild all the time, and there is always speculation as to what’s to come next. Well, new rumors have begun and it’s all due to the fact that The Walt Disney Co. has purchased three parcels of land near the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, and already, people are wondering if something is coming with Marvel or Star Wars.
While Disney has not commented yet at all on the purchase, many believe that the 14.7 acres newly purchased can be combined with some other land for big plans. Robert Niles of Themeparkinsider believes the same.
“People have put two and two together and they know that something cool could be coming down the line.”
The LA Times reported the purchase of the three parcels, which total about 14.7 acres of new land for Disneyland. It actually sits across from Disney California Adventure on Harbor Boulevard.
Not only would Disney not comment on possible plans for the land, but they wouldn’t say how much they paid for it either. Property records in the area have the land totaled at about $60 million.
A Disneyland spokeswoman named Suzi Brown did release a statement, but gave a rather generic response to land plan speculation.
“With the resort’s continued growth resulting in additional cast members and a record number of guests, this property will help to support additional infrastructure needs, including warehouse and office space and parking.”
Back in March, Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Robert Iger told shareholders that there are plans for a Disneyland park expansion, but would give no further details. Plans for expansions in Walt Disney World, most notably at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, are said to be in the works as well.
In just a couple weeks, Disney will hold their D23 Expo which happens in Anaheim every two years. A lot of plans and projects and details are expected to be announced by Disney at the event, and fans are ready.
Right now, a lot of rumors have Star Wars being put in big time over at Disneyland while Marvel attractions and characters will head to Disney California Adventure. Rumor even has it that many attractions and expansions are already drawn up and planned.
14.7 acres may not sound like a lot, but this isn’t the only land purchased near Disneyland recently.
Back in March, the Walt Disney Co. purchased the Carousel Inn and Suites at 1530 S. Harbor Blvd. in Anaheim. In 2014, the company purchased rather large office buildings at 1585 S. Manchester Ave. and 1515 S. Manchester Ave. in Anaheim.
Plans for a Disneyland expansion may be in the works with lands coming for Marvel and Star Wars, but then again, they may not. All that is known is that Disney did buy some new land, and maybe more will become known at the D23 Expo.
