Ali Larter will reprise her role as Claire Redfield in the final chapter of the post-apocalyptic franchise Resident Evil. Deadline reports that the story picks up after the events of Resident Evil: Retribution , which finds Project Alice battling the villainous Red Queen to save what remains of humanity. Paul W.S. Anderson, the director of three of the five films, and writer of all five films, returns to direct a script he wrote. His wife Milla Jovovich is set to return as Alice.
This is Larter’s third Resident Evil film. She previously played the character in Resident Evil: Extinction and Resident Evil: Afterlife . The last Resident Evil installment, Resident Evil: Retribution, grossed $240 million worldwide. The series has been one of the most successful game-to-movie adaptations, grossing over $915 million worldwide. A previous Inquisitr article reported on the latest Resident Evil HD remake, released in January, setting a record for the “biggest-selling day one digital title” on the PlayStation Network, breaking records with more than 1 million units sold worldwide.
Back during a 2010 interview , while filming Resident Evil: Afterlife , Larter was asked if she had any hesitation about reprising Claire:
“This is Paul’s vision. He’s written all of them and, when I ran into him about a year and a half ago, going to this charity event, everyone was like, ‘Paul wrote this amazing role for you again and it’s got this amazing journey,’” Larter said. “I was just really honored that they wanted to bring me back and, specifically, to get to play a video game character that so many people love, to be able to bring her to life, and to show that they want to bring me back. I guess that the boys and girls are enjoying me in this role. That to me is a great compliment.”
Resident Evil 6 starts shooting this September in South Africa, which means the film will drop sometime in 2016. Filming was delayed last year when Milla announced she and Paul were expecting their second child . The couple’s daughter, Dashiel Edan, arrived on April 1, 2015.
Milla’s not the only star from the franchise who celebrated the arrival of a baby this year. In January, Ali gave birth to her second child, Vivienne Margaret MacArthur, with husband Hayes MacArthur. Larter wrote on her website, “It’s a girl! We couldn’t be more excited to share news of the arrival of Vivienne Margaret MacArthur on Thursday January 15th 2015. She came bearing gifts for her brother: Batman sheets and lots of Gummy Bears!!! 7.5 lbs of love. (sic)”
Ali Larter posted on Twitter that she’s excited to return to her day job of killing zombies.
