‘Quantum Break’ Stops Time Next April, Adds Little Finger From ‘Game Of Thrones’
Quantum Break isn’t just a third-person shooting action game with time-stopping elements for the Xbox One. It’s also a live-action show that needs actors to perform. Microsoft revealed a new trailer at Gamescom on Tuesday that shows off the game’s action plus a surprising cast.
The Xbox One exclusive has a new release date of April 5, 2016. Quantum Break was originally scheduled to be released in 2014, but was delayed to this fall. A second delay was added to ensure the final product was “polished” while also not being crowded out in a busy holiday 2015 season that already has releases like Halo 5 and Rise of the Tomb Raider as exclusives for Microsoft’s console.

The new trailer and gameplay footage shown at Gamescom demonstrates some of the time-stopping powers that the main character, Jack Joyce, wields. Played by Shawn Ashmore, Joyce is able to stop time and cause “time explosions” for lack of a better term.
Quantum Break is split between a live-action digital show that plays out the story between the gameplay segments. The antagonist is Paul Serene, Aidan Gillen from Game of Thrones. He was given the ability to see into the future during the same accident that gave Joyce his powers, killed Joyce’s brother, and caused time to stutter and freeze. Serene also happens to run Monarch Solutions, the corporation that is pursuing Joyce and has paramilitary forces with fancy weapons and vehicles.
The cast for Quantum Break is surprisingly strong and was a well-kept secret until today’s reveal. The full cast list is below and features several veteran TV actors.
- Shawn Ashmore (“X-Men: Days of Future Past”) as Jack Joyce
- Dominic Monaghan (“Lost”) as William Joyce
- Aidan Gillen (“Game of Thrones”) as Paul Serene
- Lance Reddick (“Fringe”) as Martin Hatch
- Marshall Allman (“True Blood”) as Charlie Wincott
- Patrick Heusinger (“Black Swan”) as Liam Burke
- Mimi Michaels (“The Ugly Truth”) as Fiona Miller
- Amelia Rose Blaire (“True Blood”) as Amy Ferraro
- Brooke Nevin as Emily Burke
- Courtney Hope as Beth Wilder
- Jacqueline Pinol as Sofia Amaral
- Jeannie Bolet as Kate Ogawa
- Sean Durrie as Nick Marsters
Remedy Entertainment appears to be making the most of the extra time they have been given to make Quantum Break a memorable experience. The live-action show inside the game is reminiscent of older video games that used real actors for cut-scenes. However, the production values far surpass those sometimes laughable productions. The question will be how well the gameplay and the show will work together.
