‘The Bastard Executioner’ Adds Ed Sheeran To The Cast, Premiere Date Announced, Official Trailer Released [WATCH]
With Kurt Sutter’s newest series, The Bastard Executioner, getting ready for a fall premiere, the Sons of Anarchy creator has added a new member to the cast. According to the Hollywood Reporter, singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran has been cast for a part in the medieval drama.
Sheeran will be playing Sir Cormac in the new series. Cormac is a determined and dangerous student of an important church elder, and will be a recurring character throughout the season.
Sheeran’s appearance on The Bastard Executioner isn’t the first time he’s collaborated with Sutter. Sheeran wrote a song which was included in the last season of Sons of Anarchy. That being said, it isn’t known if Sheeran has written anything to be included in Sutter’s new series, but fans shouldn’t rule out the possibility.
In addition to the casting news, a few teaser trailers have been released that offer a glimpse into what the new series will look like. The teasers include a number of different short clips, titled “Rebellion,” “Flicker,” “The Cross,” “Scythe,” “Kneel,” “WarTorn,” and “Vengeance.”
The Bastard Executioner centers on the story of a warrior knight, played by Lee Jones, who is forced to return to his life of violence and become the executioner. Starring alongside Jones in the series will be Stephen Moyer (True Blood) as Milus, Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy) as Annora of the Alders, and Matthew Rhys (The Americans), who will have a guest part in the series. Sutter is also set to have role in the series as the Dark Mute.
In speaking with Vulture on why he decided to create the medieval drama, which is worlds away from Sons, Sutter revealed that he wanted to do something that was completely different than anything he’s worked on in the past.
“I’m really drawn to sort of broken and conflicted heroes, and Wilkin Brattle, who’s the lead in The Bastard Executioner, is deeply conflicted but about different things, you know?… And I knew after seven seasons of The Shield and seven seasons of Sons that I didn’t want to get into yet another contemporary-crime-ish kind of project. And not necessarily looking for something, period, but just looking for something in a different wheelhouse. Something that scared me a little bit. The process of this coming together happened with Brian Grazer, and it’s definitely terrified me.”
The Bastard Executioner is set to premiere in September on FX. Check out one of the official trailers below.
