‘Star Trek Beyond’ Charity Campaign Boldly Offers Historic Walk-On Role

The cast of Star Trek Beyond have partnered with Omaze (oh-MAZE) to offer charitable fans the walk-on role of a lifetime.

Per ComingSoon, the Star Trek: To Boldly Go campaign will allow Trekkies the opportunity to support nine charities chosen by the series reboot actors. Each cast member-selected campaign charity will receive an equal portion of the total raised funds when participants go above and beyond with donation efforts for a chance to win a walk-on role.

The film, Star Trek Beyond, will be the third film in the legendary franchise reboot. The release date for Beyond is July 8, 2016. The campaign runs until 11:59 p.m. PST,September 1.

Cast members John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, and Idris Elba came together to record a video message for the campaign on the rebooted bridge of the Starship Enterprise. The video below features some very familiar Star Trek cast members inviting enthusiasts of the series the opportunity to make franchise history as the “first fans (the winner plus a friend) ever” to go above and beyond their own couches and win a walk-on role in a Star Trek movie.

For each $10 contribution made through the Omaze fundraising platform, eligible campaign participants will be automatically entered for a chance to win this once-in-a-lifetime experience. The winner and his/her lucky pal will “boldly go” where no fan has gone before.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, script writer Simon Pegg noted that the “Beyond” wording of Star Trek Beyond takes the third film “where no man has gone before” and the first two reboot films did not venture, far from Earth and away from nearby planets and stars. The new film charts the Enterprise and her crew as they start their journey into deep space on that famous five-year-mission the propelled original Star Trek.

The nine charities to receive campaign donations were individually selected by cast members.

In honor of the late Leonard Nimoy and his legendary portrayal of Vulcan science officer Spock, Susan Nimoy nominated St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Zoë Saldana (Nyota Uhura) selected the nonprofit Brave Beginnings. The organization strives to assure that ventilators and life-saving neonatal equipment are readily available to newborn babies in critical care situations.

Direct Relief International, a disaster relief organization that provides relief across the globe was chosen by Zachary Quinto.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation was selected by Chris Pine.

Even beyond the Star Trek: To Boldly Go campaign’s history-making walk-on role, fans donating at the highest levels have the opportunity to score swag like a signed red shirt or a replica captain’s chair.
