Jessa Duggar Shares Her Thoughts On Cecil The Lion, Hints That She Doesn’t Care About His Death

Jessa Duggar has shared her thoughts on the death of Cecil the Lion. The former 19 Kids and Counting star opted to use a cartoon to let fans know that she’s not very concerned about trophy hunters killing lions so that they can mount their heads on their walls — the pregnant 22-year-old is too worried about fetuses to think about her furry friends.

Jessa Duggar shared the Instagram post below that shows a surprisingly sentient fetus trying to pose as Cecil the Lion, presumably to avoid being aborted. According to Salon, many anti-choice conservatives have been linking the killing of the lion to abortion. They’re outraged that the public is more outraged over the illegal killing of Cecil than they are about the existence of abortion, which is a legal medical procedure, and Planned Parenthood, which is a non-profit organization that provides reproductive health care services to poor women. Marco Rubio was quick to jump on the anti-Planned Parenthood bandwagon.

Jessa is anti-abortion because of her ultra-conservative family’s interpretation of the Bible. However, Rev. Harry Knox, the president and CEO of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, points out that the Bible doesn’t actually say anything about abortion.

“Let’s be very clear: The Bible says nothing about abortion,” Knox wrote in a Talking Points Memo post. “Anyone who tells you otherwise is offering you their inaccurate interpretation of scripture.”

The lack of the word “abortion” in the Bible hasn’t stopped Jessa Duggar and others who share her beliefs from thinking that it’s murder to abort a fetus, even if it’s incapable of surviving outside of the womb on its own — they believe that life begins at conception. However, in a Huffington Post article, Disciples of Christ Minister Rick Lowery cites Genesis 2:7 and points out that biblical writers seemed to believe that “human life begins when you start breathing.” He also cites Exodus 21:22-25, pointing out that the miscarried fetus in the story is treated like lost property, not a lost life.

While the Bible has little to say about the treatment of fetuses, Jessa Duggar might be surprised to know that Open Bible lists 33 verses about the treatment of animals. They include Ecclesiastes 3:19.

“For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.”

Jessa’s Cecil the Lion cartoon has caused a social media melee to break out between her pro-choice and anti-abortion Instagram followers. One of her followers warned women that abstinence is the only sure-fire way to prevent pregnancy.

“You chose to have sex, that baby didnt choose to be created so why kill it because its not what you want right now… if thats the case then dont have sex no matter what you use to prevent pregnancy it can still happen unless you don’t have sex. If you want to drink and party then dont get pregnant.”

Other commenters responded to Jessa’s post by saying that anti-choicers should quit trying to control other women’s bodies by fighting to make abortion illegal.

“Ya your all against it until something happens to you… You can only make decisions for yourself not other people.”

“I respect each women’s choice over their body. Not have control over your own body sounds horrific and terrifying to me.”

This isn’t the first time Jessa Duggar has used abortion and Instagram to stir up a social media debate. As the Inquisitr previously reported, she caused controversy by comparing abortion to the Holocaust last year after visiting the U.S. Holocaust Museum.
