Manchester United Transfer Rumors: Heavy Spending Set To Continue?

With six days to go until the start of the new season, Manchester United has been among one of the heaviest spenders so far this summer.

High profile players such as Bastian Schweinsteiger and Memphis Depay have joined United while Morgan Schneiderlin, Sergio Romero, and Matteo Darmian have strengthen their respective areas of the squad.

Nonetheless, Manchester United could still be in the market for players. Rumors Barcelona’s Pedro joining the Old Trafford club is still circulating strongly across the internet, not to mention the identity of the mystery signing being pursued by Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal.

The manager has hinted that Manchester United will be targeting a player of creativity and pace to join the club in the near future.

“Barcelona have the speed of Neymar and Lionel Messi and they have Pedro behind them. We have to compete with that. We can win the title if we can buy players with speed and creativity. We have to improve our selection in that way. Bayern Munich have Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. After that they can change with Thomas Muller and they also had Xherdan Shaqiri at times. They are our competitors. Chelsea have Eden Hazard, Willian, Oscar – that is speed and creativity.”

Manchester United will also be concerned that English striker and club captain Wayne Rooney is the only recognized senior striker that will start the season fit. Meanwhile, rivals such as Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool will have at least back up options heading into the season.

Manchester United has been given permission to Paris Saint Germain to sign Argentine winger Angel Di Maria . While the winger is set to depart, his transfer last summer sparked a flurry of late activities in the transfer market last season. A familiar approach could still be on the cards as areas such as the defense and attack have been noted as weak areas within the team.

Manchester United will face Tottenham Hotspur in the first game in the Barclays Premier League season. While new faces such as Memphis Depay and Bastian Schweinsteiger are bound to feature, manager Louis Van Gaal will be keeping his out on more recruits to add the finishing touches on his team.
