‘Spider-Man’ Rumors: Writers Address Strange Villain Casting Rumors And Costume For New Movie And ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Cameo

There are a lot of rumors going around about the Spider-Man reboot from Marvel and what could happen with the young, new star, Tom Holland. Lately, rumors have been flying wild about his cameo in Captain America: Civil War to casting decisions and even to his costume. The weirdest ones though are the casting choices for the villains that Spider-Man could face, who could be played by Jason Biggs and Billy Zane.

Please let it be known that a lot of what you’re about to read is nothing more than rumors. None of it has been confirmed by Marvel or anyone affiliated with the Spider-Man reboot.

Latino Review reported a lot on a rumored cast list that was going around for the solo film, and the site even provided a pic of it. It just looks like a Word document and honestly could have been made by anyone, but it brings about some odd choices and questions.

spider-man reboot rumors cast list

As you can see, it has the confirmed actors such as Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), and others. The important thing to look at are the actors said to be “in talks” or having “final negotiations.”

That would mean Jason Biggs of American Pie fame could play Scorpion while Billy Zane from Titanic could play the Vulture. It also states that Mary Jane and Harry Osborn will be in the film while Iron Man is making an appearance too.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige confirmed a while back that other Marvel crossovers into the solo Spider-Man film reboot are possible.

Seeing Hugh Laurie rumored to play J. Jonah Jameson is also an interesting possibility. Jacob Latimore playing Flash Thompson would also be a switch because he is African American and in the comic books, Flash is white.

Also, Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf) as Ned Leeds isn’t interesting so much because of the actor, but the role. Everyone knows that Harry Osborn goes on to become the Green Goblin, but Leeds ends up moving on to become the second Hobgoblin.

As reported by Collider, writers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley have said that there will be no origin story again. Goldstein confirmed that it’s just not needed.

“I think that everybody feels like you know he got bit by a spider and you know Uncle Ben died, and we probably don’t need to revisit that.”

The focus of the film will be on a high-school aged Peter Parker and how he mixes daily life combined with being Spider-Man. They want to focus on him being a “real kid” and not becoming some overly sophisticated intellectual just after being bitten by a radioactive spider.

As for the cast rumors? Comic Book Movie had Daley and Goldstein saying that they have “discussed certain characters” for the standalone Spidey film, but “nothing is certain yet, for sure.”

Now, one other rumor floating around is an image that is supposed to be what the costume will look like for the new and young Spider-Man.

spider-man reboot costume concept art

Please note again that this is not confirmed and not even an actual piece of concept art. This is a drawing of what the new Spider-Man costume is said to look like from descriptions so it could be passed around the internet legally.

As you can see, the blue is completely gone from the costume, Spider-Man is wearing foot wraps, and it just is kind of odd. The chances of this costume being the final look for Spider-Man is rather slim at this time, but it’s the current rumor.

More may be known soon as the writers have confirmed that Holland has already filmed his Spider-Man cameo in Captain America: Civil War. With that being done, they can move onto the new solo reboot and go forward.

Excitement is everywhere with a new Spider-Man film, and the reboot is surely going to bring a lot of interest as the web-slinger finally makes it into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). For now, Jason Biggs and Billy Zane and a host of others are only rumored for roles of the Scorpion and the Vulture, but time will tell.
