Houston Astros Trade Rumors: Carlos Gomez Has Been Traded Again By Milwaukee Brewers
Houston Astros trade rumors reveal a huge deal for Carlos Gomez. This Astros trade gives the team an All-Star outfielder that has also won a Gold Glove playing center field. A report from CBS Sports on Thursday night, July 30, confirms that the deal is going down immediately. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, this is the second time in 24 hours that Carlos Gomez has been traded by the Milwaukee Brewers, but this time it should be for real.
This Astros trade also brings on starting pitcher Mike Fiers, who should add even more stability to the starting rotation in Houston. Last season, Fiers appeared in 14 games for the Brewers, posting a 2.13 ERA, 0.879 WHIP, and 76 strikeouts over 71 2/3 innings. Pitching for an underperforming Brewers team during the 2015 MLB season, Fiers has a 3.89 ERA and a 5-9 record. He does have 121 strikeouts over 118 innings of work though.
Four top prospects head over to the Milwaukee Brewers in these Houston Astros trade rumors. It includes outfielder Domingo Santana, outfielder Brett Phillips, left-handed pitcher Josh Hader, and right-handed pitcher Adrian Houser. All four are ranked in the top 20 prospects within the Astros organization, meaning the Brewers are getting a very nice haul of players in exchange for Gomez and Fiers. It also shows how invested the team is in making the postseason in the short-term. It also nearly guarantees that an already deep system in Milwaukee adds enough talent to make a difference in a few years.
This is a huge acquisition for the Astros, especially if Carlos Gomez returns to putting up numbers like he did in the 2014 MLB season. He had a .284 batting average, 61 extra base hits, 73 RBIs, 34 stolen bases, and 95 runs scored. That offense, combined with stellar play in center field, and the Astros just got a lot better. Gomez could also provide a nice spark that really helps the team take off. The team is clearly ready to make a hard push for the American League West title and to go deep into the 2015 MLB Playoffs.
Entering play on Thursday, July 30, the Astros (57-45) hold a small lead over the Los Angeles Angels (55-45) in the AL West. The teams play this evening as well, with the Astros trying to finish off a series sweep and move a full two games up on the Angels. These Houston Astros trade rumors might just give the team some nice momentum, with Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers slated to be with the team by Friday, July 31.
