David Price Traded To Toronto Blue Jays: Detroit Tigers Pull Trigger On Price Trade
David Price has been traded to the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Detroit Tigers trade rumors led to a huge acquisition with just over 24 hours left until the MLB trade deadline. A report from CBS Sports baseball analyst Jon Heyman confirms that top prospect Daniel Norris is part of a package of players coming back to Detroit. This deal nets the Blue Jays an ace starting pitcher that should be a very nice addition to the roster.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the Blue Jays just acquired All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki earlier in the week, adding him to an infield that also includes Josh Donaldson. Now, the team has pulled out all the stops when trying to compete for a spot in the 2015 MLB Playoffs. It could be a rough road to the postseason, as the Blue Jays are just 51-51 this year. Still, the team is only two games back of the second wild card spot, giving the Blue Jays a good chance.
Adding one of the best pitchers in the American League makes the Toronto Blue Jays much better, which is why the team pursued this David Price trade. He immediately becomes the best starting pitcher in the Toronto rotation. The rotation had been considered a weak point for one of the better hitting teams in the league, and adding Price might just make this team one of the favorites to make it to the World Series. Though the Kansas City Royals have a much better record at 61-39 so far, the Blue Jays might now have a lot of additional momentum for the final two months.
This is a very expensive deal for the Blue Jays, as the team had to give up some highly touted prospects to get it done. It raises the pressure for the team to finally make it back to the postseason, and expectations may now include catching the New York Yankees as American League East champions this season. First up will be the Minnesota Twins (52-48), as the team has lost four-straight games, and will likely soon give up that wild card slot.
Having not made it to the MLB postseason since 1993, it isn’t too surprising that the Toronto Blue Jays worked so hard to add a starter with a 2.53 ERA this season. As for the return package in these David Price trade rumors, the Detroit Tigers get top pitching prospect Daniel Norris. MLB analyst Joel Sherman confirms that the team also acquires pitchers Jairo Labourt and Matt Boyd from the Blue Jays.
