New York Mets trade rumors reveal that Carlos Gomez is coming to town. This Mets trade with the Milwaukee Brewers had been worked on for a while Wednesday (July 29), but was just officially announced by MLB analyst Joel Sherman. Sherman states that the Mets will send pitcher Zack Wheeler and infielder Wilmer Flores to complete the deal. On the surface, it gets the Mets a hitter they have wanted for a while.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr , a rumored fire sale by the Brewers had been reported for a while, and by trading Gomez it is just about official. He was the best player on a struggling roster, and now the All-Star outfielder is going to get a shot on a really big stage. At just 29 years old, he will also have the opportunity to show the world that he is worth a lot of money when he becomes a free agent following the 2016 MLB season.
These New York Mets trade rumors have turned out much better than any of the other deals the team had been negotiating. It looked like the team might have to give up one of the really good starters in the current rotation, but somehow they get away with dealing Zack Wheeler instead. While Wheeler is certainly very talented, the Mets were able to keep the core of its pitching staff intact. Adding that to the recent bullpen acquisition of Tyler Clippard, and it is clear the team is trying to win the National League East right now.
Through 73 games played this season, Carlos Gomez has posted a.266 batting average with 29 extra base hits, 43 RBIs, 42 runs scored, and seven stolen bases. He was a bit banged up early in the season, causing his stolen bases to take a hit. During the 2014 MLB season, he posted a. 284 average, 61 extra base hits, 34 stolen bases, 73 RBIs, and 95 runs scored. Those are certainly All-Star numbers, but even better than that, the Mets add another weapon on defense.
That the Mets were able to keep Juan Lagares and also add Carlos Gomez might give this team the best defensive outfield in baseball. The pitching staff is going to love seeing Gomez in left field, where it is expected that he will play for the rest of this season. Fans of the team should be very pleased with these New York Mets rumors, because even though Gomez comes with a reputation, he is easily one of the best outfielders in the game. As for the Milwaukee Brewers, the rebuilding efforts continue.
An update on this transaction has come from Mets general manager Sandy Alderson. In a report from SI.com , he stated that, “There is no trade. Unfortunately, social media, etc., got ahead of the facts and it may have had an adverse effect on one of the players rumored to be involved. It was an unfortunate situation; it’s something I’ve addressed personally with a player involved.”
Stay tuned sports fans, because these New York Mets trade rumors just got even more interesting.
