Next ‘World Of Warcraft’ Expansion To Be Announced At Gamescom
With a bevy of expansion leaks permeating the internet lately, World of Warcraft players had a feeling they might hear about the next expansion soon. That influx of leaks might not be accurate, but Blizzard confirmed today that the developer is announcing the next World of Warcraft expansion at Gamescom on August 6.
Players, fans, and interested gamers everywhere can watch a stream of the announcement by Blizzard via a site set up by the developer. The livestream will be available at BlizzGC for all to watch. Of course, a major announcement like this at Gamescom makes some worry about what BlizzCon 2015 will contain. Since tickets to BlizzCon 2015 have already sold, there are sure to be announcement regarding other Blizzard titles like Diablo 3, Hearthstone, or even the not yet released Overwatch. More coverage of the expansion for World of Warcraft is likely while other World of Warcraft announcements could also occur.
World of Warcraft expansions are often leaked right before their official announcement usually due to trademarks or other avenues. For example, the latest expansion Warlords of Draenor was mentioned and trademarked just a week before BlizzCon 2013 where the expansion was announced. It is possible that World of Warcraft fans have already seen the name of the upcoming expansion; however, any details on it are most likely speculation.
There are a few completely unproven leaks floating around right now causing plenty of debate on sites like MMO-Champion and even the World of Warcraft subreddit. One called is “Council of Glades” and is purely based off of a trademark filed with no lore speculation. Another is called “Army of Light” which has a lengthy bit of unverified lore but no documents, fake or not, to back it up. Of course, there are many others floating around right now and even more today now that Blizzard has officially publicized an expansion announcement.
Everything is regarded as rumor until the announcement from Gamescom on August 6. World of Warcraft‘s latest expansion Warlords of Draenor is at the end of its cycle with the final raid being implemented and open to all. The expansion is quite controversial considering how garrisons function, the quantity and quality of post-launch patches, and the lack of flying in the expansion area. Not to mention, new character models where added with Warlords of Draenor, but no new class or race was included in an expansion that sold for more than other previous expansion.
