‘Fallout 4’ Is Now Content-Complete, Bethesda To Focus On Bug Fixes Until Launch

Despite being a highly anticipated title, Bethesda managed to keep the fact that they are working on Fallout 4 a secret until the title was officially announced during this year’s E3 event. While many hoped and speculated that the next entry of the Fallout franchise is the studio’s current project, the fact that the game is scheduled to launch on current-gen platforms later this year came as a big surprise.

It is rare to see such a high-profile release like Fallout 4 be released just months after its existence was revealed to the world. With the November release of Fallout 4 so close, Bethesda has now confirmed that development of the upcoming title was nearly finished before the game was even announced back in June. In an interview with GameSpot, Bethesda’s Pete Hines shared that there won’t be any additional features added to Fallout 4 between now and the time it launches.

“Let’s be honest, [right now] it doesn’t matter what anybody wants for a feature in Fallout 4. The game is basically done. It was by and large done before we announced it, in terms of the features going in. You’re not adding new features in May, June, July in the year you’re releasing; you’re trying to get everything fixed.”

Rather than trying to fit in more content, the developer plans to spend these final months to polish Fallout 4. As reported by Game Informer, Hines stated that this time will help ensure that gamers receive a game with fewer bugs and improved performance come November. Bethesda must also set aside time to make and package physical copies of Fallout 4. With the game’s release date approaching, there simply isn’t enough time to implement new features at this point.

“Not to over-exaggerate, but the game is essentially done. When you talk about what else you are doing, all we’re doing is taking what exists and polishing it and fixing bugs. It’s not like you work until November 9 and then November 10 it’s out. You have to make discs and do this other stuff. They are finishing the game. That’s all they’re doing this summer.”

Bethesda is also busy preparing for features that will be coming to Fallout 4 after the game launches. While mod support won’t be available for the title until 2016, the team has already launched BethesdaNet. This network is how Bethesda plans to deliver mods to the Xbox One and Playstation 4.

Do you plan on jumping back into Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic world when Fallout 4 releases this November?
