George Zimmerman Myspace Page Suggests History Of Racial Profiling
George Zimmerman insists that he shot Trayvon Martin in self defense and that the shooting was not race related. Zimmerman’s MySpace page, however, suggests that the former neighborhood watchman has a history of racial profiling.
Zimmerman’s Myspace page was initially unearthed by the Miami Herald. The Lookout reports that Zimmerman’s lawyer, Mark O’Mara, has already confirmed the authenticity of the page.
One post on the Myspace Page, which dates back to 2005, reads:
“I dont miss driving around scared to hit mexicans walkin on the side of the street, soft ass wanna be thugs messin with peoples cars when they aint around (what are you provin, that you can dent a car when no ones watchin) dont make you a man in my book. Workin 96 hours to get a decent pay check, gettin knifes pulled on you by every mexican you run into!”
Zimmerman also talks about his past legal troubles. In one post, Zimmerman talks about a domestic disupte with his ex-girlfriend. He writes:
“Im still free! The ex hoe tried her hardest, but the judge saw through it! Big Mike, reppin the Dverse security makin me look a million bucks, broke her down! Thanks to everyone for checkin up on me!”
The Miami Herald reports that in August, 2005, Zimmerman faced two felony charges for assault on a law enforcement officer. The charges were reduced to misdemeanor simple battery. Zimmerman wrote on his Myspace page: “2 felonies dropped to 1 misdemeanor!!!!!!!!!!! The man knows he was wrong but still got this hump, Thanks to everyone friends and fam, G baby you know your my rock!”
Do you think Zimmerman’s Myspace page proves that he is racist? If so, is it relevant in the Trayvon Martin case?
O’Mara said that Zimmerman, who is Hispanic, didn’t use any racial slurs on his Myspace page. O’Mara admitted that Zimmerman used colorful language but doesn’t believe that his client said anything terrible. O’Mara also said that the comments were made more than six years ago and have no bearing on the case.
