‘The Flash’ Season 2: Killer Frost Is Coming
Fans of the CW series The Flash already know Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, one of the assistants at S.T.A.R. Labs looking after Barry Allen. But fans of the Flash comic series jumped at her name, as well as her strong ties to Ronnie Raymond, expecting that in the not-too-distant future, we’d see her reappear as supervillain Killer Frost. And it looks like everyone’s suspicions were right, as a scene in the Season 1 finale has shown the briefest of glimpses of Grant Gustin as the Flash speeding past Panabaker, kitted out as a future Killer Frost.
The Flash star confirmed at SDCC that her alter ego is incoming, and that while it may still be a while in coming, she’s excited to see how her character gets to that point. She told Den of Geek at an SDCC roundtable as follows.
“Obviously, I’m extremely enthusiastic about becoming Killer Frost, and I want it to happen like, yesterday, but it’s going to be exciting to see that journey and how it happens.”
Our brief glimpse of the villain in the season finale of The Flash showed that her costume has already been well thought out, from a long blonde wig to eerie eyes and navy blue lipstick. Panabaker said the wig itself was “truly transformative,” and talked about working closely with the costume designers to make sure they got the right feel for the character in the scant few seconds we see her.
Even back in April, Panabaker was responding to comments that her Flash character would take an evil turn. According to ComicBook.com, she was aware of Caitlin Snow’s storyline in the new comics, and was looking forward to seeing her turn evil, even to the point of asking Flash writer and producer Andrew Kreisberg on a regular basis with questions as to Caitlin’s future. Of the possibility of a Killer Frost appearance back then, she said as follows.
“There’s absolutely no wincing at all on my part. After my experience with this first season and how many different places we got to take Caitlin, I am completely confident that it’s not going to be all of a sudden she just flipped a lightswitch and became evil. I have complete confidence in them that they’re going to do justice to the characters and it will be a very interesting journey to see.”
It definitely looks as though that’s going to be the case in the upcoming season of The Flash, though how and when she’ll make the change remains to be seen.
The Flash returns to the CW for its second season on October 8, 2015.
