The Office’s Jenna Fischer: Pressure to Lose Baby Weight is ‘Unnatural’
The Office’s star Jenna Fischer is speaking out against the unrealistic expectation for mothers in Hollywood to shed the pounds right after delivering their children. Fischer, who’s been a first time mother since giving birth to son Weston Lee in September of this year with screenwriter husband Lee Kirk, spoke to Celebuzz about the industry pressuring women to look thinner particularly right after giving birth.
Jenna Fischer, adamantly expresses her distaste for this part of the industry, saying, “I think it’s unnatural. There’s so much pressure on you as a new mom that the last thing you need to have hanging over your head is some expectation of what your body is supposed to look like. I actually think that the scrutiny of new mothers’ bodies has gotten out of control. Every new mother just gets a free pass. I’m actually angered by the ‘posing in a bikini six weeks after having my baby’ [trend]… Who cares if our boobs are hanging low and we have a little more junk in the trunk? We created a human being, everybody. Let’s celebrate!”
As far as the Hollywood trend that the actress is referring to, supermodel Heidi Klum famously received attention for getting back into shape by losing a hefty twenty five pounds six weeks after she gave birth to son Lou.
Other celebrity moms like Kerri Russell, Gwyneth Paltrow and Debra Messing have given credit on their quick weight loss to breast feeding.
