Mike Huckabee Cuts Through Trump-Mania With New ‘Say Anything’ Attitude
Mike Huckabee has a household name and a well-known presence, having had his own show on conservative Fox network, appearing before liberal audiences on The Daily Show, and actively reaching out to black voters with stops at several South Carolina black churches. But falling significantly behind Donald Trump in the polls threatens his chances at appearing on the debate in two weeks. Mike Huckabee needs the attention of voters and the media, and, like Trump, he’s using his words to get it.
In an impassioned op-ed on Fox News, GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee calls out America’s pattern of “destroying innocent life” while trying to remain a global leader. The former Arkansas governor likened Planned Parenthood’s recent viral video to a mechanic trading in car parts, calling them “evil.”
“Only evil could treat the organs of innocent babies as if they were fuel lines for a Ford – to be swapped, sold, discarded and disposed at the whims of a mechanic.”
Huckabee continued his tirade against Planned Parenthood and politicians who oppose abortion but support its legality before calling for an end to abortion altogether.
“… we must remember this battle is more than just de-funding Planned Parenthood. We must end the scourge, sin and slaughter of abortion.”
Huckabee’s passionate post betrays his Baptist preacher roots, and his intentions to increase his visibility in the overcrowded GOP race for president. Huckabee has been choosing and using his words wisely, and it seems to be working. His recent comments around President Obama’s agreement with Iran has sparked controversy and calls for an apology to the Jewish community. Opposing Obama’s actions, Huckabee, taking a page out of Donald Trump’s political playbook, went on the offensive using what some have called “inflammatory speech.”
“… he will take the Israelis and march them to the door of the oven.”
Mike Huckabee has taken a Trump-esque stance on his remarks, remaining unapologetic. Huckabee is starting to play the game to win the nomination.
Obama responded to Huckabee’s comments from his stop in Ethiopia, according to the Business Insider.
“The particular comments of Mr. Huckabee are part of a general pattern we have seen that would be considered ridiculous if it weren’t so sad.”
Obama also suggested Huckabee’s comments were “an effort to push Trump out of the headlines.”
Morning Joe‘s Mika Brzezinski choked up over Huckabee’s comment, calling it “a deal breaker” for his candidacy.
With the August 6 debate fast approaching, Huckabee’s controversial comments are seen more as a way of securing his spot on the conservative debate stage that has been limited to the GOP’s top ten political candidates.
If Huckabee’s strategy works, he will take his place on stage during the upcoming debate. If Huckabee’s strategy falters, it will be harder for him to stay in the minds of voters as the presidential race continues.
