Robin Thicke Learned To Play Piano For A Girl

It turns out that the real reason Robin Thicke learned to play the piano was for a girl – when he was just 11-years-old. After about two piano lessons, he decided to figure out Richard Marx’s hit “Right Here Waiting” to serenade his crush.

It seems Richard Marx got a kick out of Thicke’s interview.

Referring to how he picked up his interest in music,

”That’s the beauty. Anyone can pick up a paintbrush and dip it in paint. There’s no law against it.”

With his hit, “Blurred Lines,” Thicke became a household name in pop music.

Early in his career, his parents had reservations about him pursuing the entertainment industry. Robin’s parents are actress and singer, Gloria Loring, and actor Alan Thicke of Growing Pains.

Thicke’s success began as a songwriter for Christina Aguilera’s self-titled debut album and Pink’s first record, “Can’t Take Me Home.” With a long history of hits, Thicke adds that his parents became more supportive.

”I started making a living when I was 16, so (my parents) were worried because they know how hard the business is and how many people promise you the world and then don’t deliver and then you’re broken hearted. So they were obviously nervous for me. But once they saw – by the time I was 19, 20 – that I already had a long list of accomplishments, they started gaining confidence in it.”

As far as his earliest memories at the piano, it’s clear that Thicke’s choice of Marx’s hit may have been a foreshadow of his future in successful songwriting.
