Sam Smith Canceling Shows Again: Fans Want Answers
Fans of British soul singer Sam Smith are wondering what is happening now that Sam has once again cancelled planned concerts. Smith disappointed fans in Australia earlier this year when he had to cancel a series of planned shows after suffering a hemorrhage on his vocal chords. Initially, it was thought that Smith would be able to continue his tour after a few days vocal rest. Sadly for Smith, that did not prove to be the case.
Sam was forced to cancel the Australian leg of his tour, and he flew to the U.S. to undergo surgery to correct the problem with his vocal chords. At the time, the time speculation suggested that overuse and incorrect use of his singing voice had caused Smith’s hemorrhage. After Smith’s surgery, the star was forced to undergo six weeks of total vocal rest, something that Sam admits he found very difficult.
Smith told Dispatch about how he coped with his post-surgery recovery, saying, “I hated it! If I ever have to do it again… I will go to a silent monk retreat.”
Smith recently returned to touring and singing and earned rave reviews with his performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Smith is now touring in the U.S. and Canada, but it seems that all is not well. According to Contact Music, Sam cancelled a planned show in Raleigh, North Carolina, on July 23. No explanation was given for the cancellation, but a press release on the PNC Arena website said that the show had been rescheduled for October 6.
Somewhat strangely, Smith did perform at the Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, last night. After the show, Smith took to Instagram to say that the Merriweather crowd was the loudest he ever heard. Smith has made no comment about the cancelled shows on social media.

Some fans left comments on the photograph questioning why Sam “postponed a concert one day because you are sick & the VERY next day you perform somewhere else.”
The mystery does not end there. Dispatch reports that Smith has cancelled a show scheduled July 29 at the Value City Arena, Columbus, Ohio, and rescheduled it for October 5. Fox 13 also reports that a show scheduled for the Maverick Center in Salk Lake City on August 5 has been cancelled and rescheduled for October 2. They say that a press release states that Smith has cancelled the show “to allow for additional healing time” after his surgery.
Smith has made no comment about the postponement of his shows, nor has he explained why some shows have been cancelled whilst others go ahead. Fans would like an explanation as to why Sam Smith is canceling shows.
