Ellie Goulding And Tarrus Riley Make Telekinetic Waves In ‘Powerful’ Video
Major Lazer’s new album, Peace Is The Mission, features “Powerful,” a track that combines the considerable talents of Ellie Goulding and Tarrus Riley.
In the music video for “Powerful,” director James Slater seats Ellie Goulding and Tarrus Riley in a diner, where they begin to discover telekinetic abilities. As Ellie sings about the powerful energy she feels when they touch, she walks through the restaurant, causing silverware to bend and milkshakes to fly. Riley makes his grapefruit spin and his quarters bounce. After they turn the cafe upside-down with their powers, Goulding drives the getaway car.
Natalie Weiner, a writer at Billboard.com, thinks the pace of the video matches the song very well.
“The video follows the crescendo-ing intensity of the Peace Is The Mission single. Goulding’s telekinesis begins mildly, with a quivering coffee cup, and eventually turns the mild-mannered diner into a full-on anti-gravity machine.”
Miss Goulding, who is a fan of electronic dance music, may have plans to be in Ibiza this summer. Ibiza, an island in the Mediterranean Sea, is famous for its rave scene. In an interview with Beats 1, Ellie says that “not a lot of people think I’m into Ibiza and that, but I genuinely am. I have to wear some kind of disguise or it’s tricky. But I’m looking forward to hiding somewhere and partying for a week. Then I have to start doing some real work and release my third album.”
Goulding’s third album is scheduled to be released next year, and Ellie has been spending time in her studio to get it completed. During an interview with Capital FM, Goulding told interviewers, “The album’s going well, I’m just trying to take my time a bit more, this year my focus is solely about getting my record finished.”
Ellie has hinted recently that she may also be recording the theme for the next James Bond movie, Spectre.
Recording artist Sam Smith was a popular choice for the Bond theme, but he disagrees.
“People seem to think I’m doing it but I have no idea what’s going on. I’m being deadly serious. I think I would know by now… I heard Ellie Goulding was going to do it.”
If Ellie Goulding is recording the next Bond theme, she has a difficult act to follow, as Adele won an Academy Award, a Brit Award, and a Golden Globe award with “Skyfall.” As Glamour UK‘s Solo Artist of the Year, fans don’t think Miss Goulding will have any trouble.
