Jimmer Fredette Rumors: San Antonio Spurs Offer Fredette A Shot To Save NBA Career
Jimmer Fredette rumors have the San Antonio Spurs giving him another NBA shot. The Fredette rumors are confirmed by a report from CBS Sports. The Spurs gave the former Brigham Young star a deal to join the 15-man roster and possibly suit up for opening night of the 2015-16 NBA season. On a deep roster in San Antonio, Fredette is certainly going to have to earn his minutes.
Last season, Fredette played for the New Orleans Pelicans, appearing in 50 games off the bench. He averaged just 10.2 minutes a night, putting up 3.6 points and 1.2 assists a game. They weren’t spectacular numbers, but Fredette has continued to show he can be a really good three-point shooter and an exceptional free throw shooter. In his career, Fredette has hit 38.1 percent of his shots from behind the arc and 87.8 percent of his shots from the line. That includes a 95.6 percent mark with the Pelicans.
After getting selected as the No. 10 overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft, the Milwaukee Bucks shipped him to the Sacramento Kings as part of a three-team deal. He stayed with the Kings until he was waived during the 2013-14 NBA season, signing with the Chicago Bulls to finish out that year. These latest Jimmer Fredette rumors indicate he is about to be on his fifth NBA team in his short career.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr, the San Antonio Spurs have been busy during the NBA offseason, adding David West and LaMarcus Aldridge through free agent deals. The Spurs also re-signed Patty Mills and traded the Sacramento Kings for Ray McCallum. It means the roster is pretty packed with players for Spurs coach Gregg Popovich to choose from during the 2015-16 NBA season. It’s hard to even see where Fredette will fit into the mix, but if he can prove himself during the NBA preseason games, Popovich will certainly find him some minutes.
No team in the NBA can have too many shooters on the roster, especially if it is someone who can spread the floor and doesn’t command the ball at all times. That could make this a very sneaky signing for the Spurs, especially when it comes time for Popovich to start resting Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili later in the season. The best thing that BYU fans can take away from these Jimmer Fredette rumors is that he is getting another chance to prove he belongs in the NBA. At just 26-years-old, he may also be in the perfect situation to win a ring.
