Taylor Swift And Nicki Minaj Friends Again After Taylor’s Heartfelt Apology

The spat between Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj finally ended just before Minaj’s GMA appearance. Swift took to Twitter early this morning to share a heartfelt public apology for the misunderstanding that caused the feud that’s been going on since Tuesday afternoon.

Minaj says she’s now on good terms with Swift after a phone call yesterday.

“We’re all good, I spoke to Taylor Swift yesterday on the phone. She was super, super sweet and she apologized. She said, ‘Look, you know I didn’t understand the big picture of what you were saying, but now I get it, so we’re all good,'” she said in an interview on Good Morning America Friday morning.

Nicki Minaj also took to Twitter to address the apology and says she respects Swift more following the feud.

E! Online says that misunderstanding was a result of Minaj expressing frustration on social media about the media’s treatment of women of color. No names were mentioned, but Swift and her fans assumed the tweets were a reaction to her “Bad Blood” video.

Swift’s image as a sweetheart took a bit of a pounding during the feud. The media quickly turned on Taylor, blaming her for the misunderstanding. Even TV Guide chimed on in the debate, accusing Swift of missing the point of the tweets. The Huffington Post reported that many fans were outraged by the feud as well. They slammed Taylor, accusing her of racism and faux feminism for taking attention away from the real message.

Minaj expressed frustration with the media’s handling of the issue throughout the debate. She criticized the handling of the story, accusing the media of using the misunderstanding between her and Swift to take attention away from the actual issues she was trying to address.

Perhaps now that the feud is over, Swift and Minaj will use the attention to ignite a serious conversation about their common ground: feminism and the treatment of women in the media. Minaj’s intended message was that we need to examine the treatment of women of color in the media. Taylor Swift considers herself a feminist. She has also used her fame as a platform to bring attention to women’s issues. One notable example is her discussion of feminism and misogyny in her Maxim Hot 100 interview.

What are your thoughts? Has this debate overshadowed the actual issues? Does traditional media have an image problem when it comes to women? Are women of color treated differently? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
