Calum Hood Just Fired The First Salvo In A ‘Rock Revolution’
Calum Hood and 5 Seconds of Summer surprised their fans last week when they dropped their new single “She’s Kinda Hot.” The new single was shared frantically by fans and was the most shared track on Twitter in the U.S. when it was released. Calum and his band-mates will be delighted to have seen that the song has smashed it’s way to No. 1 in no less than 37 countries in the week since it’s release. Now Calum Hood has declared war on the bland and boring pop charts.
According to News Australia Calum say’s 5 Seconds of Summer are out to create a revolution by bringing rock music back to the charts. As reported in Inquisitr yesterday Calum and his pals are desperate to shed the “boy-band” label that has been attached to them since they opened for One Direction on tour. 5SOS are currently out on their own headline arena tour and are winning rave review. Calum and his mates will be relieved that reviewers are now beginning to recognize what their fans have known for some time. Hood says 5SOS are not a radio-friendly, manufactured “boy-band” their credentials as a genuine pop-punk rock band are on show for anyone who wants to take the time to listen properly.
Singer and bass player Calum is delighted at the success of the new song, especially as it is a departure from the more radio friendly material on the first album. After the band’s show in San Francisco, Calum took careful aim and fired the first salvo in his self-styled rock revolution.
“Hopefully we introduce a bit more guitar on the radio and inspire some people to pick up guitars. We love rock music and we want to hear it back on mainstream radio.
“I am sick and tired of hearing all this b******t on the radio, if I am going to be honest. It is driving me insane.”
Billboard report that the new tune is a clarion call to disaffected youth, to those who don’t “fit in.” Hood says their second album would kick off a “revolution for kids who don’t feel they are accepted in society”.
“Everyone has felt they kind of sucked sometimes, especially with us when the band first started and we didn’t fit into anything.
“The first shows we played were after metal bands and everyone hated us.”
How times change. 5SOS’s debut album has sold more than 3 million copies and the lyric video for “She’s Kinda Hot” has been viewed over four million times in a week. We are going to be hearing a lot more about Calum Hood and 5 Seconds of Summer.
