Own A Harley With Saddlebags? Your Bike May Be On Harley-Davidson’s Latest Recall List
If you have a 2014 or 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, there’s a good chance your bike is part of a nationwide safety recall issued for a long list 2014 and 2015 Harleys.
The third recall in three months, the company warns that more than 185,000 motorcycles in the U.S. are at an increased risk of crashing due to loose saddlebags. NBC reports that Harley-Davidson attributes the issue to faulty mounting hardware and found out about the widespread problem through warranty claims. To date, there have been no reports of crashes or injuries through the month of June, with July reports forthcoming.
The safety recall includes the following 2014 and 2015 model year Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
- 2014 and 2015 Road King, Street Glide, Electra Glide Ultra Classic, Ultra Limited, Police Road King, Police Electra Glide and CVO Ultra Limited
- 2014 CVO Road King
- 2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low, Ultra Limited Low, Road Glide, CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide Ultra
If you own one of the bikes listed above, contact your local Harley-Davidson dealer to make an appointment. Starting July 27, the company will replace the saddlebag hardware free of charge.
Three months ago, Harley recalled over 46,000 bikes (model years 2014, 2015) due to a faulty clutch master cylinder. Unlike the saddlebag recall above, there were several accidents and minor injuries associated with the safety recall issued in April.
Twelve different models were affected, with the NTSA stating that the clutch issue worsened if the motorcycle was parked for a long period of time. If you were not notified about the April recall, the list of bikes that may have a faulty clutch master cylinder includes the following.
- 2014 CVO Road King
- 2014-2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic, Electra Glide Ultra Classic – Twin Cooled, Ultra Limited, Police Electra Glide, Street Glide, Street Glide Special, and CVO Street Glide
- 2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low, Ultra Limited Low, Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low – Twin Cooled, Road Glide Special, Road Glide
In addition to the saddlebag and clutch recalls, Motorcycle USA reports that Harley issued a safety recall for 9,000 bikes in April due to the possibility that the motorcycles were manufactured without a rear reflector assembly. The recall included select 2015 Street 500 and Street 700 bikes that were manufactured between May 2014 and March 2015.
