‘Sons Of Anarchy’ Star Ron Yuan Lands Role In Netflix Original ‘Marco Polo’
Sons of Anarchy star Ron Yuan has been keeping busy since the final season of the popular FX show wrapped up in late 2014.
According to IMDB, the former Sons of Anarchy star has had several guest appearances, including NBC’s The Blacklist and the CBS hit Hawaii Five-O. On the big screen, he’s landed roles in four upcoming movies including The Accountant with Ben Affleck, due for release in 2016 and what’s sure to be one of next year’s blockbuster movies in Independence Day: Resurgence.
Up next on his small screen body of work is a recurring role in the Netflix original series Marco Polo. This marks Ron Yuan’s first repeat role on a series since Sons of Anarchy, yet he’s had several different repeat roles in his outstanding two decade career, including The Golden Boy in 2013 as Lt. Peter Kahn and Prison Break in 2008 as Feng Huan.

Back for its second season, Marco Polo is a tale of the adventurer by the same name. The show documents Polo’s voyage through his early years as a member of the court of Kublai Khan. It’s also set to explore the founding of Yuan dynasty, which Polo is credited as the creator. Much like Sons of Anarchy, body counts rise with each episode, promising viewers a constantly-changing cast, according to Fashion & Style.

Ron Yuan’s character on the Netflix show is Prince Nayan, who according to history was a member of the Mongol Empire royal family Borjigin. Nayan raised an army and attempted a rebellion against Kublai Khan. Nayan traveled throughout four provinces and had other descendents of Genghis Khan join him in the failed revolt. While history tells of the revolution being foiled by an aged Khan, the storyline on the show has yet to play out.
On Sons of Anarchy, Ron Yuan played Ryu Tom, a loyal member of the Chinese gang who stood beside Henry Lin (played by Kenneth Choi) throughout the final season. During the show’s run-up to the finale, Lin was killed by a member of SAMCRO (the biker gang headed by rising superstar Charlie Hunnam, or Jackson “Jax” Teller).
You will be remembered, Ryu! Say hello to Lin.

Although Ron Yuan – who also has directed and is credited as a stunt choreographer – has had several acting jobs, the Asian American actor could have more if not for being typecast due to his ancestry. That held true for him on Sons of Anarchy as he was cast as part of the Chinese gang. However, Yuan has a plan to overcome that, according to a recent interview conducted by SinoVision you can watch below.
