WWE News: Samoa Joe Will Face An ECW Original At ‘NXT Takeover: Brooklyn’ – Other Matches Announced For Huge Event
The Samoan Submission Machine now has his next big match in WWE, and it’s going to be at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn. Making things even better, this is going to be a huge and aggressive brawl with Samoa Joe taking on an ECW original when he steps into the ring with Rhyno.
Samoa Joe will indeed take on the man-beast known as Rhyno in a bout that is sure to drive the Brooklyn crowd crazy. His Takeover clash with Rhyno will be Samoa Joe’s first big test since signing with WWE, and it will be a good one.
As reported by WrestleZone, there were a few things in last night’s episode of WWE NXT that led to the announcement of several other matches for NXT Takeover: Brooklyn. The special is taking place the night before SummerSlam, and it could be just as big.

Another match that was announced for NXT Takeover: Brooklyn is a tag-team championship match in which Wesley Blake and Buddy Murphy will defend their titles against The Vaudevillains. Their title shot came by defeating Big Cass and Enzo Amore last week.
That makes four announced matches on a card that is planned to last around three-and-a-half hours.
- NXT Championship: Finn Balor (c) vs. Kevin Owens
- NXT Tag-Team Championship: Blake & Murphy (c) vs. The Vaudevillains
- Samoa Joe vs. Rhyno
- Jushin “Thunder” Liger vs. Tyler Breeze
Tickets for the Takeover special in Brooklyn are selling very well, and it easily outsold the event in San Jose. That event took in 4,700 fans, and ticket sales for Takeover are still going strong.
Originally, WWE had planned to seat 6,000 fans at the Brooklyn arena, but those tickets sold out so quickly that they changed things around. The set-up has been adjusted, and there will be seating for 11,000 fans.
Dark matches are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET, and then there will be an hour taping of an episode of WWE NXT. That episode will likely air on August 26, and it will be followed by NXT Takeover: Brooklyn which will run from 9 – 11 p.m.
Many are wondering about a number of things and foremost on many fan’s minds is how Kevin Owens’ status on the WWE main roster is holding up. Some believe he has been demoted from main event status, but others feel he simply will have a lot to do with the match against Balor and then SummerSlam.
For now, there are four matches on the card for NXT Takeover: Brooklyn with the addition of the tag title match and Samoa Joe vs. Rhyno. It’s going to be a huge event that will likely add two more matches before the card is finalized.
