‘Space Jam 2’ Finally Happening? LeBron James Signs Deal With Warner Bros.

The big LeBron James news a year ago was the story that he was “Warner Bros No 1 choice” to be the basketball star on screen in Space Jam 2. The original movie, in 1996, starred the “inimitable” Michael Jordan, who said that his biggest accomplishment would always be Space Jam. This year, the story of James and Warner Bros came true, and the Twitterverse isn’t entirely happy about it.

On July 22, James signed a partnership deal with Warner Bros. through his production company, SpringHill Entertainment. He said it would let him do things he’d always dreamed of.

“To be able to partner with Warner Bros. will allow me to do some things I’ve always dreamed of.”

Along with a flurry of new Space Jam trademarks that Warner Bros. Entertainment has been “quietly filing,” the announcement of the new partnership was enough to give a big boost to the rumors of a planned sequel starring LeBron.

Hardcore James fans are more than excited.

One Twitter user went as far as saying it was the best news they’d ever received.

The problem is, there are a lot of Space Jam fans who don’t want to see James in the sequel. According to Natalie Finn, writing for E! Online, Lebron’s previous movie appearance in Trainwreck was so good that fans now feel the attraction of the “amateur-actor vibe” is gone. Other think it’s “just too Hollywood” of James to sign with a studio, or disrespectful to Michael Jordan to have LeBron star in the sequel. Whatever the reason, there’s a definite sense that a lot of fans would rather not see the LeBron version of Space Jam happen.

A few are just nostalgic for the classic Looney Tunes of the ’90s and don’t want to see a sequel at all.

Some have had suggestions of basketball players who they think would do a better job than LeBron.

Hollywood Take reported that although James hasn’t confirmed the Space Jam sequel, he has said that he’d “be willing to star in some of” Warner Bros’ movies.

“If it’s the right script and it’s authentic to who I am then I’m not afraid to show my face on camera and try it.”

Do you think that Space Jam 2 is coming soon? If it is, should LeBron James be the new Michael Jordan in the movie?
