Antonio Banderas And Melanie Griffith Finalizing Divorce
It’s really happening, folks! Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith are very close to becoming ex-spouses. According to TMZ, they have signed all of the legal documents to finalize their divorce. All of the papers were dropped off to the L.A. County Courthouse on Friday. That said, they haven’t been granted an official divorce just yet.
Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith announced that they were separating back in June of 2014. In a joint statement they said that they “have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together…”
That said, it looks like the pair are still trying to be supportive of one another and their family. The two reunited for Stella Banderas’ high school graduation. Antonio and Melanie even posed for some pictures as it was a happy family event.
Over the years, Antonio has been open about their tough marriage. Back in 2011, he opened up about his then-wife’s addiction problems. Back then he told AARP that they “have had as many problems as anybody.”
Griffith went to rehab in 2009, which was her third stint in rehab. He said that as a couple they have always dealt with their problems head on. “We’ve never hidden it. We’ve been open about addictions, in the case of Melanie.”
He continued, “The pretending is the worst, because kids are so smart. They can see through all of those things, and if you don’t talk openly about problems, it creates a very dark place. They carry that through the rest of their lives, to their marriages, to their kids.”
Griffith later on opened up about her struggles to AARP and how Banderas has supported her as much as he can. “Antonio was supportive to the extent that he can be, but if you’re not an alcoholic or drug addict, and you find out that your wife is a bad one, it’s hard to deal with. … I wish he would go to a meeting with me or to Al-Anon, but it’s very foreign to him. Addiction runs in my family but not in his.”
Later on she said that the statement wasn’t against Antonio.
When their divorce is finalized, this will be the fourth divorce for Melanie and the second for Banderas.
