Brett Favre Is A Packer Again!
Brett Favre was introduced as a Green Bay Packer again on Saturday. Favre played for the Packers for 16 years, but when he left, there were hard feelings on both sides. Favre felt the Packers had quit on him while he still had good seasons left in him. The Packers were none too happy that Favre eventually ended up in a NFC-North-rival Minnesota Vikings jersey.
All of the bad blood is now under the bridge as of July 18. Farve’s number 4 jersey was retired, and he was inducted into the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame. His name is now beside Packer Legends like Bart Starr, Paul Horning, and Vince Lombardi. ESPN was at the induction and reported some of what Favre had to say to the crowd of 67,000.
“I have to admit, I’m a little bit embarrassed that all this is for me. I really am. I loved to play football. I dreamed of playing football. I dreamed of playing in the Super Bowl. I never dreamed of standing here before you in a moment like this. This is way beyond what I dreamed of, and I am so honored.”
Naturally, the crowd erupted with chants of “MVP” to denote the three NFL Most Valuable Player Awards Favre won while playing for the Packers.
“I can sit here and tell you thank you until tomorrow, and it wouldn’t be enough. Believe me, I have played elsewhere, and there’s nothing like this place. There’s absolutely nothing like it. Where else can you get this many people in a stadium where there’s not a game? Where else? Where else can you get this many people when there isn’t a game? Only here. It’s incredible.”
Favre is not the only Super Bowl-winning quarterback to leave his team under bad circumstances. Four-time Super Bowl Champion Terry Bradshaw had a similar situation when he left the Steelers. He did not get along with his long-time coach Chuck Knoll, and Bradshaw did not return to Pittsburgh for nearly two decades. All of that changed on October 21, 2002. Terry Bradshaw returned to Heinz Field, and the crowd welcomed him with open arms much like the Packers did Favre on Saturday.
Brett Favre had two pretty great seasons after he left the Packers, but there is no way that any football fan would ever see him as anything but a product of the Green and Gold. What are some of your greatest memories of Brett Favre?
