Two giants of the science fiction and fantasy worlds each recorded dramatic readings of some of Taylor Swift’s biggest songs and now, the pop megastar has dubbed them part of her Ultimate Squad goals. Sir Patrick Stewart, best known as Professor X of the cinematic X-Men universe, and Sir Ian McKellen, Gandalf from Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit series of films, have been best friends for years, and each had the opportunity to record dramatic readings of Taylor Swift‘s recent hits off her latest album, 1989. One thing is certain — when Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen record their interpretations of pop’s biggest hits, people listen.

It seems that Taylor Swift was impressed that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen took their readings of her work so seriously, having responded to Stewart’s request that they be allowed on her squad.

The songbird told Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen that they were more than welcome on her squad, an invitation that was enthusiastically retweeted by Stewart.

It seems a pairing of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen can do no wrong. The longtime friends shared a kiss on the Mr. Holmes red carpet a few days ago in celebration of Sir Ian McKellen’s latest release, and McKellen was the officiant at Sir Patrick Stewart’s wedding a few years ago. The public in general has loved this pairing for so long that even pairing the two for a buddy movie has been suggested occasionally for years, most recently during a Facebook Q & A that Stewart held with Entertainment Weekly as his movie Match hit theaters and On Demand earlier this year. When someone asked about the possibility of a Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen buddy movie, Stewart demonstrated his usual warm humor when he said, “Absolutely. It’s a brilliant idea. Will you write the script for us please? Which of course will have to have approval.”
Patrick Stewart accompanied his BFF to the premiere of his new movie Mr. Holmes, planting a kiss on his lips during the arrival. The photo went viral, and while Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen may have told some that the kiss was not a big deal, having held hands during some touristy photos previously, what is clear is the genuine affection the two have for one another. This is a bromance that trumps all others, and while there has been no official word about a Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen buddy movie hitting theaters anytime soon, if the fans have anything to say about it, someone better get going on a script to make that film happen.
